City names are fascinating

Take the name of the Saudi city Jeddah جِدَّة.

I had read this word hundreds of times before but never thought much about its root

It turns out its Arabic root ج د د (J-D-D) is also the root for the Arabic word for "grandmother" جَدَّة 'jaddah.'

But this left me puzzled; what could a Saudi city have to do with grandmothers?

I did some reading and it turns out that according to folk belief, the Tomb of Eve, considered the "Grandmother of Humanity", is located in Jeddah.

Jeddah means “new” (jadeed) since it was founded recetly. I’m from Saudi Arabia and I’ve never heard this interpretation.
