City names are fascinating

Take the name of the Saudi city Jeddah جِدَّة.

I had read this word hundreds of times before but never thought much about its root

It turns out its Arabic root ج د د (J-D-D) is also the root for the Arabic word for "grandmother" جَدَّة 'jaddah.'

But this left me puzzled; what could a Saudi city have to do with grandmothers?

I did some reading and it turns out that according to folk belief, the Tomb of Eve, considered the "Grandmother of Humanity", is located in Jeddah.
