First Mosque in London | Inauguration

Показать описание
London’s first Mosque - the Fazl Mosque in Southfields - was inaugurated in 1926.
This clipping shows guests in attendance at the inauguration of the Mosque, which must have been quite an exotic site seeing as it was the first of its kind in the whole of London.
The caption reads:
‘The inauguration of the new Mosque at Southfields in progress. The Emir Feisal, Viceroy of Mecca, was unable to perform the ceremony.’
Emir Feisal was then the crown prince who had accepted the community’s invitation to attend the inauguration as the chief guest. However, due to certain circumstances, at the 11th hour, he sent a message that he couldn’t make it.
