The Shah Jahan Masjid, Woking, Surrey, UK, August 29,2021

This is the first purpose built Masjid in the UK and Western Europe outside of Muslim era Spain.
I've been planning to visit this Masjid for quite some time. Alhamdu'Lillah finally I was able to go there in August,2021. It is located in Woking, Surrey, about an hour drive from West London. Beautiful surroundings with large trees and amazing landscaping. Gives you a feeling like you're in a park. The pictures don't do it justice, you have to be there to appreciate the beauty.

The Masjid is quite small(40-50 people). The new prayer area is in another side of this old Masjid, which holds over 1000 people.

The Masjid became a centre of Islam in the UK during the First World War. It was built in 1889 by a Hungarian-British Orientalist, Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner (he was born in Pest, Hungary, on 14 October 1840 to a Jewish family, later he adopted a Muslim name of Abdur Rasheed Sayyah.)
It was named after Sultan Shah Jahan Begum of Bhopal, who partly funded the Masjid as a place of worship for the students of the Oriental Institute in Woking.
