"Trains" are my all-time most FAVORITE mode of transportation. I would ride the entire route of each and every exampled within. What a BEAUTIFUL list. Thank you ever so much.

You’d think after seeing two or three trestles without guardrails, this guy would start to understand that trestles don’t have guardrails; that guardrails don’t do anything for trains.

You keep mentioning "lack of guardrails" as a safety consideration. Just exactly what kind of guardrails do you suppose it takes to keep a train from going over?

Regarding "The Bergen line", running between Bergen and Oslo. It's not running along the coast, but cuts straight through over the mountains.

I love riding trains. What amazes me is the knowledge that was available as early as the 1800 to construct not only the trains but the bridges, Via ducts and tunnels. It’s like the world of construction had a reawakening.

17:00 Just for info Devon and Cornwall are UK counties not cities. The coastal line connects the towns of Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Newton Abbot, all of which are in Devon.

The city in the Yukon is not called “whitehouse”
It’s Whitehorse.

I live in Kumamoto Japan, Where Minami Aso line starts. And the line is only 17km long with 10 stations and doesn't travel all across Japan. It's not that unsafe to take that ride here because the track maintenance is incredible here in Japan. The only problem is it lies on the biggest active volcano in Japan. Erupted in 2021 as well.

Can we all just appreciate the beauty of his thumbnail. A train on a taxiway!

Mangalore is where I'm from. The Western Ghat railways has now introduced a fully glass sided train on that route so passengers can enjoy the scenery

As an FYI, a guardrail on a railway isn't like a guardrail on a highway. In railroad terms, a guardrail (or 'check rail') is a parallel running inner rail to keep the wheels from moving out of alignment over certain sections of track. In the video there is a clear example of them at 4:25 running along the insides of both rails.

It’s interesting to see projects from around the world and how they deal with often unique challenges.

8 days after Amtrak's 50th anniversary
And the diesel locomotives in the White Pass & Yukon Route section are now on the Durango & Silverton
The Devil's Gate bridge in the Georgetown Loop section isn't the original one, the original one was scrapped when the line closed in the 1930s, the one you see today is a replica built in the 1970s

No. With my luck I would live through the first three derailments, recover from my injuries only to plunge to my death from the highest drop through the newly installed safety railing that failed. Great video.

Great video. Just love railroads. Here's my story: when I was a kid spending the summer with relatives in Rutland, Vermont, a train would slowly creep right through the middle of town. If my cousins and I wanted to go from my grandmother's house to my aunt's house, we'd hop on the side of the train and be there in 5 minutes. They would never allow that today!

16:33 that accident was in a different bridge connecting Rameshwaram to Dhanushkodi. It wasn't Pamban bridge. The cyclone was so intense that not just that bridge alone collapsed but the entire island of Dhanushkodi was washed away in a huge tidal wave.

Never ever would I consider riding ANY of those. Not even for a billion dollars! I was sick to my stomach watching! It was beautifully done.
