Both sound exactly as they should. One, a performer forced to hunt, the other, a hunter forced to perform.

The imperfection of Katniss makes her scene perfect

Susan collins was so brilliant in creating these two, Rachel even said Lucy gray was a performer forced to fight and katniss was a fighter forced to perform

The one Katniss performs sounds more like a lullaby that has been sung for generations. Like a folk song everyone knows. Lucy's song has heart and heavyness only she knows. It stops you on your tracks.

Lucy is more enchanting while Katniss is more eerie. Meanwhile the song in general is overall unsettling

Both are beautiful

Lucy gray has the voice for it and puts a lots of emotion into that song

Katniss voice is so pure and raw and rlly carries the story for the song

I like that Lucy Gray’s version has the exact words that the books did, because Katniss’s adds “who” and omits “up”, but that’s also natural that it’s evolved over the decades and been passed down. It’s a small detail that really makes it for me

people are saying Lucy Gray’s version is too “extra” but it’s supposed to be her writing the song and melody for the first time, whereas the version Katniss sings has been passed down through generations so the melody has been simplified kinda like a nursery rhyme

It’s crazy how the song that was written by someone he loved so dearly, was later used in a rebellion against him

just remember...Lucy is a performer so if it sounds like Lucy is trying to sound "perfect", it's because she's used to

this shows total different environments of both characters and both portrait these characters very well
Katnis thought and started to sing what she felt, it was the only free time for her to think something different rather than survive
Lucy on the other hand, reminding snow about scene that occurred beneath that tree and telling him about trust and love and I feel like she wants to tell him to come here and be hers rather than being blinded by power

I don't understand why people are saying "this one wins it for me" like it's some kind of competition. This is Lucy Gray Baird's song and is still sang after generations, much more like a Folk Song kind of way. And the connection between them just gives more meaning to it being the anthem of the revolution against the very man the song is about

Katniss Everdeen feels more somber like the war isn’t coming but here & Lucy sings in hope the war never comes.

It’s absolutely insane all her vocals were live.

Katniss for me. She’s singing it like a lullaby that has been passed down for years- because that’s what it is, a dark rhyme. The way Lucy Gray’s song shows how it was immortalized in Katniss’ scene makes me love it so much more. Lucy sings it like a song, she knows what it means and her emotions are beautifully portrayed. Katniss’ scene just shows how Lucy Gray won in the end

Both styles of performance serve a purpose for the women they’re representing & for that reason, they’re both the same level of great. Katniss is not a performer, she’s forced to preform while being introverted & socially awkward which is why Katniss’ version sounds more natural and not professional. Lucy on the other hand IS a performer, outgoing, and wears her extroverted nature on her sleeve which is why her version is more professional sounding with more technique. The way Katniss sings is more aligned with a lullaby your mom would sing to you at night, Lucy Gray’s singing is what you’d see at a bar. Absolute genius characterization of the two.

Katniss sounds more raw and real. It sounded more haunting and gave me the chills. Lucy Gray's was more of a performance, something you'd hear on the radio. There's music in the background, but Katniss' is just as raw and real as it gets. Katniss wins for me

lucy gray wrote the hanging tree! i always love how she sang the song so full of emotions and from the heart because she wrote it from what was happening around her at that time. the guitar accompaniment adds flavor too because lucy gray likes doing her best when she sings and performs. katniss' version was also really good! she sings it like it's a nursery rhyme with dark lyrics that has been around district 12 for a long time. it's also so eerie because at katniss' time, district 12 is no more as it has been bombed to the ground. her singing at a forest, her voice echoing, with mockingjays singing with her, really insinuate the tragic dystopia she is facing snd fighting. whereas lucy gray sings from the heart, katniss sings like she's deep in thought, like she wants to encourage people to come with her, like she wants to send a message. i find it fascinating that in both situations, that same song could be addressed to one person in different contexts (coriolanus snow). still, both very good performances! would listen to both on loop!

There's rawness in Katniss' version. Its like she was actually reliving a memory, telling the tragic story of the characters in the song, relating her own experiences, yearning to escape and runaway, but the circumstances wouldnt let her.

Lucy's was more of a foretelling, there's innocence in her voice, Tells us of her lack of anticipation for whats about to come next. theres a faint sound of hope, thats about to get crushed by the cruel world they live in.
