How To Export Still Image/Frame in After Effects (TUTORIAL)

In this quick tutorial I show you how to export a still image from a frame in your After Effects composition into an image format such as JPEG, PNG, Photoshop, TIFF etc.

For anyone who did not get the render queue or dialogue box to choose file type like I did, it may be that you also never exported a frame before like me.

Save frame as opened a save as window with photoshop format as only option. Luckily they mentioned the render queue so I did this: composition -> add to render queue -> in new bottom window (render queue) down arrow next to the default output module -> custom. This then opens the window shown in video and you can select typical image file types. Then select your output to and hit render like in video.

This rendered every single frame as a still image. However, this was the first time I ever tried to export a frame. When I went back to follow tutorial as shown it moved it to the render queue and allowed me to select jpg thru custom again and do a single frame. So if you are having trouble like I was it may just be due to first time exporting a frame.

I was using AE to curve some text on a still image, no animation, so this helped me export the still image for use. Thank you!

So you just had 1 image from where you started but what if I want all the images sequence in lets say my composition how would I do that?

is there a tool that manage a bunch of saved frames with one click ? i have really much frames saved and i dont want to click 300 times change from photoshop to jpeg and start render, every single one ?! ty

Nice video but this feature doesn't work any more. The only options for "save as" are psd and exr file formats. AE Build 22

Hello there! Excuse me, but I have a question. If, when I press 'Save frame as' and then 'file' it doesn't automatically open the render queue but only lets me save it as a photoshop file anywhere on my computer, how do I fix that? I remember seeing somewhere that you have to change some settings in 'Templates' and 'Output Module' but I'm not sure how to do that and what settings to set.

Nice tip, but after using this feature, I prefer using "photoshop layers", this will directly output raw file with layers and save your time setting up render queue.
