My mom bought a dvc resale later in life and invited us to stay with her for 3 nights. I remember how amazing it was to stay at poly and AKL and just thinking wow I’d kill to vacation this way. When she passed she left us her dvc. That was truly the best gift I could ever receive. We’ve been going annually for 8 years now and bought a second contract.

I looked seriously into DVC but when I did my research it was very difficult to book a resort for the dates I wanted. I don't want to settle for a resort I don't like. I want an Epcot resort and they're so difficult to book for the dates I like to go. I like studios and they are hard to get. Plus you haven't mentioned the taxes and maintenance fees you have to pay yearly. So this is why DVC probably isn't for me.

I married a workaholic. He did not know how to vacation. I had to teach him. He's better now.

Let’s not disrespect the All-Stars too much. Some of us haven’t forgot where we came from. Stayed there last year for a long weekend trip. I remember staying there in the early 2000s thinking this was as good as it’s ever going to get.

I agree with everything shared about the type of personality that benefits from DVC. I am a planner but I'm in Ohio. I also always have something planned or I would lose my mind (I work at a hospital). Growing up, we never had money for vacation so it was high on my priority list. I will add one comment: a friend of mine attempted to buy Old Key West points. They were told, sorry, Jeff Haslam already purchased all of those". 😉. Hey now!! Great show once again, totally enjoyed it. 💜

We rented points 2 times so we could "try before you buy" and loved it and became members. This is a great way to see if it's for you.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY YOU FOLKS ARE THE BEST!!!
Of all of the podcasters/bloggers who have a vested interest in selling/re-selling DVC, you are the ONLY ones who go into detail about the Annual Dues Surprise every Christmas. Everyone else glosses over that issue, but you folks mention the Dues and explain how to best prepare for them. I'm so glad that I bought from you in the past!

I was staying at the Poly when i decided to go on a dvc room tour at the bungalows. i talked about the flexibility and costs with an agent and have been a happy DVC owner ever since. At that time i was traveling to Disney every year - sometimes 3 times a year.
I now go on two trips a year and one is a big extended family trip which is now possible because of the grand villas

As someone, who has rented a house in Florida, for a pretty cheap price at around $1200 for the week, it wasn't worth it since I had to rent a van and leave the house "clean" afterwards....since being a DVC member since 2017, I haven't had to worry about transportation to and from the parks, doing laundry(I bring small Tide & Downy) and cleaning the room myself! I have NO regrets!

For years I thought there was no way I could ever buy into DVC until I found out about Resale Market. Derek summed it up perfectly. Literally no one who has gone from value to a deluxe stay has ever said "You know what, I like All Star Music better."

I'm also curious what factored into Panda's decision to purchase direct over resale and would he if he had it to do over again.

It's also hard to justify the cost of DVC when you have access to Shades of Green. It's one of the original deluxe resorts on property with huge rooms, balconies, easy access to laundry, and the perks of deluxe resorts. Perhaps military families would be another category of folks for whom DVC isn't the best investment.

A friend of mine said she doesn't plan ahead so this wouldn't work for her, but I pointed out that most of the trips she took centered around birthdays, holidays, the Grand Kids school schedule, so really she already knew the days they would be going she just wasn't planning those days ahead.

Loved the conversation. 1st vacation with the family (4 & 6 year old kids) was in 2010. Ended purchasing 100 points at Saratoga Springs with plans of vacationing every 2 or 3 years. Received 100 points from 2009! Recouped my $10, 000 purchase price the 1st trip staying at Animal Kingdom for 13 nights is a 2 bedroom villa according to the rack rate listed on the door. Shopping for more points now that the kids are of age so the wife and I can vacation yearly at Disney World. DVC is a great value!

I live in CO, so I booked the dates I wanted and then found the airfare. I book SW airlines, and deals come all the time, so I can rebook and get a better deal. For my BCV and AU, I have to book out 11 months in advance. Otherwise, I cannot secure the deluxe studio. OKW are the points I use for the 7-month or less window dates. I love DVC, and I am grateful for Monera Financial. I purchased through them and paid the contract in cash a few months later with no penalties. When you find the best contract for you, Monera allows me to buy quickly and NOT lose the deal :) ....and yes, I also make payments to them, but my goal is to double my payments to get it paid off faster.

My wife and I have NEVER been planners. We usually decide on arrangements for trips within a month of travel. We bought into DVC because after watching your show and doing our own research, we saw the value. Lo and behold, we now LOVE planning our future Disney stays, checking into the website to see what's available, imagining the possibilities for our trips. It's a blast!

The hardest question to answer for us was, were we willing to vacation at Disney over the next 8-10 years? Well, we thought about it and decided there were enough festivals and other things going on that we could definitely plan trips over the next 4-5 years. A deciding factor was we’d be able to take our granddaughter and family every 2-3 years. As it turned out, we’ve taken her every other year and that’s when addonitis hit.

Location, location, location as long as magic kingdom is maintained and magical. Floridian/poly/baylake make the vacation so much better. Just like Beach and Boardwalk are awesome because Epcot and Hollywood so close. Animal kingdom lodge is incredible as long as your doing the water park and animal kingdom.

i really enjoyed listening and watching you guys, i usually listen driving to work but i watched the episode during my lunch break. So who shouldn't buy DVC lol. I think you sold us DVC lol. But i agree with everything all 4 of you said. We bought our first contract in May of 2023 direct, then resale September 2023 and most recently a 50 pt contract from Derek lol. I have my countdown calendar watching for the next trip (haha 8/17), but we seriously just love it. it brought our family closer and we make new traditions and beautiful memories. Thank you for a great episode.
