Götz is a living embodiment of a Mount and Blade Warband character

The funny thing is, Götz (according to himself) was only a nominal commander of the peasant rebellion under duress. They closed in on his castle and forced him to lead them in combat because the rebels didn't really have people with military experience among them.

At least that's what he claimed to get off scot-free after the entire thing was over. He claimed to only have taken command so the rebellion wouldn't escalate further.

Also when that cannon took off his hand, that was an incident of friendly fire.

Kentaro Miura, the creator of Berserk, actually stated that Guts wasn't based on Götz of the Iron Hand. He had only found out about Götz after he decided that the Black Swordsman should have a metal arm.

Fun fact: Götz's legacy was so well known in the german army that during ww2 the 17th SS panzergrenadier division was named after him.

-A war starts somewhere on Earth
-The war was not over by Christmas
-It leads to heavy casualties with no decisive victory
- in order to solve millitary problems, new weapons are created
-A leader decides to reform his army to use new weapons in warfare
-A good general starts destroying every oposing army thanks to new weapons and tactics
- the inovative side wins
-other nations take note and begin to copy the new way of warfare
-the new way of warfare becomes standard throughout the nations and will be used in the next war
-repeat

0:37 If my amateur historian mind remembers right. Götz von Berlichingen pretty much was forced to lead the Peasant Army.
They just surrounded his castle and asked/forced him to become their general because of his reputation as a great warrior and leader.
He realized though that the peasant army would never stand a chance. Badly armed, untrained and completely lacking discipline (they didn't even have ranks, as the movement was based on equality and democracy)
He slipped out of camp one night and escaped.
Turns out he was proven right. As the peasant rebellion was brutally crushed.

His castle is like a 10 minute drive from where my grandparents live. Very nice location, they still do an open-air theatre of his life there every year.
