Yoda: "Broke my fucking hip fighting Darth Sideous, I did!"

"Too old for this shit, I am!"

Yoda believed that only the offspring of Anakin would be able to defeat the Empire. He was hiding away until such time as Luke was ready to be trained. Joining the rebellion would have exposed his survival and put him at risk. He needed to stay hidden and train Luke in secret.

Basically Yoda had survivor's guilt x1000.

He didn't just crash the Death Star onto Palpatine's head, he crashed it right into Coruscant and killed untold billions.

He was very old, defeated and broken. He spent his whole life as a member and later leader of jedi order that vanished because of him among other reasons. Then he had last chance to stop sith and lost the most important battle of his life.
He died of old age around 25 years later so its understandable that he ‚retired’

He was preparing to face his arch nemesis, R2D2

The deaths of the Younglings (who Yoda was a mentor to) was probably one of the most horrific events of his life, and he was 900 years old, so of-course not being able to foresee that tragedy as head of the Jedi Order sent him on a downward spiral of depression and made it seem pointless for him to join the rebellion as that still wouldn’t bring back the Younglings. With Luke crossing his path, Yoda probably healed some of those old wounds of regret, and most likely felt redemption when he trained him as a Jedi.

When you played that clip of Yoda talking. I filled in the dialogue with “gonna bite your knees”

It’s crazy how emotional these Jedi Masters get and just hang it up then run away.

He didn't just crash it on Palpatine specifically, he literally sent the death star plummeting into Coruscant killing billions of civilians.

In the end, Yoda knew about the Sith grand plan. It came to him in a vision during his arc in season six of the clone wars. He let it happen though, in the novelisation of revenge of the Sith it goes into further detail about this, as Yoda says that the order had fallen because the Sith had changed and could no longer be defeated by simple lightsabers, the Jedi “ let them change, I did not.” so in the movie when he says “into exile I must go, failed I have” he’s not talking about not stopping the grand plan of the Sith, but he’s talking about failing to lead the order into the future. Also, he was hiding because only Obi-Wan and him were left to train Luke, the future of the Jedi order rested in his survival.

I can’t really blame him. He felt responsible for what happened, and by removing himself, he let the new generation take the charge towards a better future.

He still turned the tide in the rebels’ favor by training Luke and offering advice, but his days of pulling the strings were over, and he accepted that.

That’s sad that Yoda blamed himself so much. The alternate reality where he crushed Sidious w the Death Star is p funny tho

Without watching this video, I can tell you. He felt responsible for everything that happened. Enough said end of video.

Because the Emperor already brainwashed the galaxy into thinking the Jedi were in the wrong during the Separatist war Palpatine had set up. Showing himself (Yoda) to those who do not know what to believe wouldve undermined the rebellions' efforts to gather as many to their cause.

Yoda was wise, yet blind and arrogant. He saw the signs of the Sith's return yet technically chose to turn a blind eye. Other jedi also warned them about the coming darkness for a while but just dismissed it. Yoda didnt realize what was really happening till it was too late.

Remember, Yoda didn't just abandon the Galaxy, he knew kenobi and luke were still out there. He left knowing there was a way to save the Galaxy without him
