Why Didn't Yoda Wield A Lightsaber After Order 66?

After the horrors of Order 66 and the destruction of his Jedi Order, Yoda went into a self imposed exile on the world of Dagobah. With his order in ruins and almost all of his friends dead, Yoda felt immense shame and guilt for not foreseeing Palpatine's rise to power and for failing to beat him in a lightsaber duel. After losing his lightsaber during the duel in the Corusant senate, Yoda decided that he would not make a new one. Instead he would go into exile and would meditate on the force, waiting to one day train one of the Skywalker twins. As part of this exile, he vowed that he would never wield a lightsaber again.

The worst thing is, since he was the strongest force user at the time he could feel every single person that died and there feelings of betrayal and sadness towards the clones that they commanded and fought with

*Fun fact:* One of the most curious and unsolved plots in Star Wars is intimately tied to Yoda. During his exile, the little green was forced to temporarily leave Dagobah in order to rescue Jorj Car'das (a smuggler who appeared in Timothy Zahn's books) from a Dark Jedi who kidnapped him. I know how crazy it sounds, but that event was only mentioned in one novel and never explored in depth.

The fact that Yoda trained Luke without wielding a lightsaber is honestly kinda badass

Yoda was so hard on himself. He was like 900 years old when he lost to Palpatine. That thing he floated around on was a futuristic wheelchair because his body hurt. Also yoda used form 7 I think atarui which was heavy in acrobatics and allowed him to face large opponent's. The downfall of this form is when you get old it takes a lot out of you. You have to use so much force power and it is hard on the body. Qui gon used this same form and it is why he died to maul. He was old and halfway through the fight he used battle mediation to try and recover. Someone like dooku was old but his fighting style was to do the minimal amount of work with the most precision so old age didn't effect him. He wasted no energy, every strike or parry was precise and he mastered his lightsaber to an extent that was so great and so far ahead of everyone other than yoda and mace that he didn't have to waste much force energy to defeat his opponents. Yoda being tiny had no choice but to use the form he did because unlike a dooku no matter how great he became with a lightsaber he would always be at a huge disadvantage if he wasn't flipping around and moving at lightning paces. Jedi and sith move so fast due to the force that a normal person wouldn't be able to register their movements. Yoda did great for being a old man that could barely walk without using the force.

I don't think Yoda ever needed a lightsaber. I can imagine someone going to strike him with their lightsaber, but he freezes their hand instead and forcepushes the lightsaber (and maybe them) out of the way.

Yet somehow Luke had Yodas lightsaber and offered it to Grogu in the Mandalorian

These videos have taught me more about star wars than any other full video from other channels

Yoda: *Renounces his lightsaber in order to become a pacific monk*
Also Yoda: "A TRAP IT IS" *Proceeds to stamp the Death Star on the surface of Coruscant, killing billions of beings in the process*

My favorite fan theory was that Yoda was dead and Luke was trained by his force ghost. The theory is that only Luke can see him. R2D2 only tries to stop the flashlight from “floating away” and really can’t see him.
The theory states that Yoda died at the dark side cave/tree at the hands of Vader in a duel.
That’s why Yoda can’t leave Dagobah or use a light saber.

Lightsabers are a weakness one cannot afford.

Ppl so often overlook the tragedy of yoda under the shadow of that of anakin and kenobi etc. They too suffered but yoda, being so old and helpless at the time of order 66 and to see the order, that he has been part of for 800 years crumble must have been so tough

I like to think that he intaken so much Ketamine while on Dagobah that he forgot to build his saber.

I always thought it would have been cool if Yodas lightsaber somehow wound up in Lukes hand and thats how he got the green crystal

Yoda did disarm palpatine that’s why palpatine fell back on his force abilities fully as he knew his mastery of the dark side can overcome a master of the light as the darkside is more taxing on the person but more dangerous in the shorter time it can be used
