I really hated the overly serious and boring Yoda from the prequels. Yoda should be a little silly and goofy, that's a big part of why he is so charming. They even replicate these more lighthearted traits with Grogu when they give him a playful, silly personality. I always thought that their species was like that. As characters they closely resemble Aang from Last Airbender - very wise and gifted, but also lighthearted, playful and goofy. There's nothing i hate more than the depiction of the Jedi as these sterile, boring, emotionless space monks (which is canonized now).

Pretty clever technique actually. I’m guessing it would have been very useful for teaching younglings how to recognize and correct their own hubris, as they would think at first that a frail old guy couldn’t possibly be a wise teacher and great fighter at the same time

Pretty sure they never planned on more movies, originally, so the real reason today acted crazy is because he was just supposed to have gone a little bit crazy living in that planet by himself for so long.
