Funny thing, Mike is actually intelligent enough to calculate the location, serial number, best by date, and type of chocolate bar, while veruca, violet, and Augustus are just spoilt rich kids, and Charlie is just a nice kid.

2:11 I just love that serious look on Willy Wonka face!! It's like he knows exactly what he's gonna do to these children, how each kid will meet their fate, and you get a sense that the awkward and weird Willy Wonka is all just an act to fool his guests. Like we're not meeting the true Willy Wonka. And throughout the film, if you pay close attention, that serious expression will appear, giving you a feeling that he's testing them. I really like this Willy Wonka.

I like that they put that in. Augustus wasn't around for long, but that scene was enough to help cement what a selfish and simply mean kid he could really be (In contrast to the older version, in which Augustus came across as an ok kid who just ate too much, but at least had good manners), better ensuring that we wouldn't exactly be feeling sorry for him when he goes up the pipe.

One thing that always stood out to me is how unlike the other three kids, Mike and Charlie don’t try to get Wonka’s attention, and yet, they’re the only two who Wonka showed any interest in.
