I really hope Lelouch isn't dead. He was way too good of a character to let that happen. Not to mention totally selfless. Making the entire world come together as one by make them hate him so much. But, he never meant any of the cruel things he did as king. It was all an act. Poor Nunally found that out too late. And it killed poor Suzaku to carry out his friend's wish.

not entirely correct, your thinking of the manga,
the new code geass anime season is based in the European Union during the period or R1 and R2
not called R3 either, but its a useful tag as everyone knows what you mean by it.
also an OVA series is being made, expanding on nunally a little,

@Darkwing2654 Lelouch aint actually in it. Just a person that looks like him. And has some characteristics that should be similar. R3 is in the past of the Code Geass we know. With some guy called Renya with some arm shooting shurikens.

For the end of R2, we will never know if Lelouch is dead or alive. And we won't know untill they will make a follow up on that story which they probably won't.
