The difference is subtle. When we are death staring at someone, we are taking in every detail we can. That is threat assessment, counter measure creation, attack planning, and just categorizing how f***ing stupid and annoying this person is. When we look at someone we love, we are also taking in every detail, but the reasons and feeling are entirely different. We are taking in every detail we can, because we want as much of this person as we can get. We want to remember every bit about them, from the way they move, the way they sound, to the smallest bit of how beautiful they are to us. We aren't planning, categorizing, or assessing. We are just feeling. We are just enjoying the peace this person gives us, just by letting us look at them. That is rare for us. We don't get it from just anyone. We may even give the slightest smile, or twinkle in our eye. We aren't faking that expression for anyone's benefit, or just because it is easier like we do with most people. We just genuinely wanted to smile in that moment. If an INTJ will look at you this way, do not waste it. Because we do not do it all the time, and that look will change if we realize you aren't who we thought you were.

Sometimes when I'm an audience member, I will disengage my stare from the speaker to a spot on the wall away from them so that I don't draw them to talk at me for their whole speech. I'm really no more interested in what you have to say than the people sitting on either side of me, but my listening face just gets perceived as so much more intense. I developed this habbit during unversity lectures. I really didnt enjoy the prof lecturing directly at me.
