I have a tip - when installing a car battery don't put your face over the top of it when you connect the cables. That's so if it's a bad one with a short it won't possibly blow up into your face spraying your face with battery acid. Be safe!

Sorry Scotty but you forgot to clean the Terminals and cable ends. After you tighten them down then coat them with sealer to keep the battery gasses from corroding. Yours Truly 33 yr + Certified Master Auto Technician 😉

Also worth getting the positive and negative the right way around when buying the battery. I discovered there’s actually two options when my installing my new battery, had to take it back and swap it.

Make sure your battery replacement is a close match to the original. I once replaced my battery with a slightly taller one and noticed a small dark spot forming on the red battery terminal cover but didn’t think much of it, well in a few days it shorted to the hood and the car caught fire and was destroyed !

I connect a little 9v battery with alligator clips before disconnecting the battery to save having to reprogram the radio, etc..

Hey Scotty, when jump starting a car does it matter what end you put on first? Positive or negative? What about when removing the jumpers?

I remember when I went to autozone the a employee there kept trying to talk me out of getting a big battery I wanted a big 1000 CA battery for a car that only took a 500CA battery. His primary reasoning wasn't that it was overkill and expensive it was that too much cranking amps could damage your starter.

I had a 2014 Ford Escape. The computer would shut off the accessories position when I was listening to the radio without the engine on. The on times went from half hour finally to five minutes. So, new battery. It also had a five minute till off to save battery. Turns out, the computer needed reset for the new battery. I don't know if other cars are like this; mine was.

One of the times Scotty is very correct. Fit the biggest battery that fits the hole, just make sure the hood closes and doesn't short across the terminals.
