I am a Catholic Deacon. I was attacked and shot 5 times.02020 I defended myself and in the process killed the attacker. My faith and the sacraments got me through the ordeal. One of the reasons I converted was because the Catholic laid it out in the Catechism that self defence is/may be a necessary act AND in some cases not to defend oneself or community is a grave sin.

Fr. Pine, you were my gateway to the splendor of the Dominican Order. God willing, I will become a Dominican Tertiary one day. God bless you.

I could've listened to Fr. Gregory talk for hours. The man has an incredible charisma and way with words, and a very impressive memory at that! God bless him.

Some thoughts as someone who conceals my full sized handgun with a pro-life shirt almost daily. Meekness is an act of strength. Meaning, we grow in meekness by having the ability to exercise violence and choosing not to. If you are going to conceal carry or exercise self defense in any other way, you have to continually train and refine your skill sets. Fear associated with poor training is what leads people to go to violence first. Having the peace of mind to know when and how to use the tools at your disposal gives you ample time to deescalate or to remove yourself from the situation. Finally, if you are going to commit to being prepared to defend yourself, you also need to get medical training to the degree that you are able to triage anything your skills allow you to inflict. Frankly, I've used more of my medical training on car accidents than I've ever had to use my firearms training. I'll link some good training and knowledge videos and websites for those of you who want to be responsible when it comes to self defense.

I love your talks you really do make me think a lot more deeply. I was always taught to turn the other cheek, but my grandmother taught me that I am not a doormat. You are very pleasant to listen to I thank you very much.

(Catholic) self defense instructor here. That was a good cursory overview. I think it's always worth mentioning that Christ himself had excellent advice on the subject regarding SD, lethality and proportionality.

E.g. if someone smacks you, you can turn the other cheek. If your life is in danger, aquire lethal state of the art "assault" weaponry. Sell your jacket to do so, if required.

"Swords" are lethal weapons. Thus killing is implied as incidentally justifiable by our Lord himself.

Pacifism is an immoral and terminal condition, my friends.

Don't seek violence, but at the same time you don't have to fall victim to violence either.

Thank you for this video, it was posted at exactly the right time for me. -I’m currently locked in a dispute with my husband’s family & you’ve reminded me that I don’t have to submit to anyone. God bless.

Excellent teaching and clarification.👍🏻 If we are attacked, the INTENT is to use proportionate force to defend ourselves by stopping the threat. In the case of using a gun against an attacker, the intent is to stop him, not to kill him, right?

We Templars get flack for putting ourselves into potentially violent situations. We don’t do it because we like confrontation, but because we have sworn an oath to protect Christians and Christendom as well as those that may not be Christian but are still innocent and defenseless. At the same time we are called Christian Hardliners for our conviction of faith. Just thought I would throw that in there as we deal with the self defense question quite a bit. God Bless and Deus Vult!

Thanks Fr Pine. I'm a (Protestant) born-again believer currently working as a nurse aide, and a much younger (23? yr old) coworker has, in my opinion, been very rude to me (ex: shut a door in my face) and taken advantage of my kindness. (I was foolish to loan her money; I had thought she was more mature.) I think I would accept a 50% re-payment and even accept payment to my church in place of payment to myself. But it's very hard to communicate with her so I have yet to make her that deal. I guess I'm more concerned that she grow up and receive Jesus than whether I get repaid. I ask people to pray for her salvation but I suspect I'm not done dealing with her rudeness. Can viewers simply pray that Diamond gets saved please? I would also like her to hear my feedback about her misconduct.

I am delighted to see a Dominican priest. I am 87 and grew up in the shadow of Dominicans. I was at Dominican school, the priests were Dominicans and I was a non-catholic attending daily mass. I became a Catholic when I was 18. I have not been faithful and a very short time ago I discovered my grandfather was a Catholic. He was supposed to have been killed in the first world war, although I am non sure about that.

An AR is NOT an assault rifle! That’s like saying the mass and the rosary are of equal value!
Also of interesting note: if someone intends to kill you (their will being manifested in words or actions) and one determines this, it is not wrong to will to kill them if they’re trying to kill you. Kind of a “Duh” thing.

6:18 _"because we have means to imprison someone for a long time"_

There were oubliettes in some places when St. Thomas penned his words ...

The longer you imprison some (like the closer the verdict comes to earlier ones on death penalty) the more frustration is that person going to feel for longer and longer time. Note, the frustrations in death row are more due to prolongations after prolongations than to death penalty itself as such.

And the more people who are treated that way, the more people you need who are "capable of dealing with them" - one desideratum being at least apparent humanity, but one being also prudence about a dangerous person. Is society best served by getting more and more of those who have seen too much evil in fellow men of less fortune than themselves?
