Just as Simeon, after encountering Jesus, "took him up in his arms and blessed God" (Luke 2:28 ESV), we seek to lead others in a life of stewardship, relevant engagement, and practical living that honors and blesses the Lord.

The chosen got my young children excited to read the New Testament, and when they come across phrases quoted in the chosen they get excited…which is cool cause I get excited when the chosen uses the words of the Bible in their show.

There’s no criticism we chuckle at more than the 2nd commandment violation idea. On no conceivable level are we creating a god, and on no conceivable level is anyone worshiping the show or the Jesus depiction.

Nobody/nothing is perfect except God and His Word… so ya, if you wanna nitpick I’m sure Chosen has some inaccuracies, but millions r being reached w/ the Gospel which is the great commission in action

I won’t watch The Chosen, but I’ll use YouTube, an iPhone, Netflix etc..

I’ll also work 8-10 hrs everyday for money that is evil.

I’m also not effective at soul winning because I’m a weird anti-social type who’s not “of the world”.

I won’t look at myself, but I’m quick to point out flaws in other people.

That’s how some of y’all Christians sound like..

If The Chosen causes you to stumble.. I don’t know what you doing with your life 😭

Well, I think Jesus would prefer if we just stick to the Word of God and the Word of God alone.

I heard Phil Wickham in an interview saying that he loves the chosen and supports it. But when he prayers he has to imagine looking at Jesus's feet because Jonathan Roumie image has come to him sometimes when praying. His interviewer said the same thing also. I guess that is why some believe that Jesus should never be portrayed by anyone. Saying that - the chosen is a great show and is bringing Christ to many people. Love it. ❤️

12:00 Ruslan, we cannot base our beliefs on what has been done in the past, the mere fact that Jesus has been depicted in books, poetry, films, etc is not a base on which we can decide whether it is right or wrong. Only God's Word decide what is right or wrong, GOD sets the standard not history.

The second commandment is very clear about this, we need to stop overanalysing scripture to suit our narrative or views. God forbids us to make depictions of Him, period. Exo 20:4  "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, OR ANY LIKENESS of ANYTHING THAT IS IN HEAVEN ABOVE, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." You emphasise ALL things in the scripture you quoted, now apply that same principle here. Do you know what ANY LIKENESS means, it means depicting Jesus in ANY way. We need to serve God as He commands in His Word.

We should not try and be more clever than God and come up with all kinds of interesting or creative ways to serve Him. Yes we need to spread His gospel to everyone, but we can't go about it breaking His commandments. God knows how fallible we are, how easily we fall into sin or idolatry, just look at Israel, Moses only left the people of Israel for a short period of time and they turned to idols... Aaron the High Priest thought it would be wise to make a VISIBLE representation of God so that the Israelites could stay motivated and serve something tangible they can SEE. Just after making the golden calf he said in Exo 32:5  When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.” So it was no longer about believing and trusting God unconditionally, the same God who saved them from slavery in Egypt, but they needed to see God in order to believe He was not gone... Why? Because they believed more in Moses than the God who sent Moses and now that Moses is gone, the guy who provided the guidance, the people started to think of their own ways to serve God. Isn't it ironic that this happened just after God gave them the Ten Commandments. Isn't it ironic that Moses was on his way back down from the mountain to give the people the Ten Commandments, visibly written down by God Himself on the stone tablets? God knows we need proper guidance, because we go astray so easily when given the opportunity. The boundaries set by God is not there to restrict is, it is there to protect us from doing dumb things.

The moment we delve beyond the simple commandment of not making any image or likeness of Jesus, we make the water muddy ourselves. We believe Jesus is God, we believe in the trinity, we cannot separate Jesus the man, from Jesus as God. During Jesus's time on earth He was God and man at the same time, we cannot separate those two identities of Christ, in order to pay for our sins He had to be fully man... but to carry the wrath of God he had to be God at the same time, because no man can carry the wrath of God and survive. When we depict Jesus in film or pictures we can only depict His likeness as a man, we will never be able to depict His Godly character... because just ask yourself, how do we depict His Godness, how would you describe or illustrate the essence of God. We simply can't and that is why God gave us the second commandment in His all knowing wisdom. Lets obey God and serve Him according to scriptures and not according to human traditions.

how would you respond to critics saying that the "I am the law of Moses" line is straight out of Mormon doctrine from nephi?

God said ‘You shall not make for yourself any graven image, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.’ Any image that depicts an image of Christ is by reference a centre of attention. And this can lead to adoration to a false representation of the Messiah. I’m not saying the series have a bad representation per say, but it can be misinterpreted by the viewer, and so we must be aware of what we follow for our sake and for the sake of others. Are we following the Jesus of the bible or are we following the Jesus of the film. And is the series actually replacing our time alone with God reading the scriptures? You see, since long ago people have been looking for ways to seek God through a way that pleases the flesh. And most certainly watching any type of series pleases the flesh, but reading the bible, praying and worshipping God has to be done by discipline. And so we must become disciples of Jesus through The Word and not through some series. I think when you first think about it would seem like a great thing ( like I used to think ) but this will only lead to false believers who have no understanding of what it is like of having a real encounter with God through reading the Bible repenting for your sins through prayer. I know it’s a long reach here trying to get you to understand. And I may be wrong but I’m still just trying to fully grasp God’s will on this, though I’m pretty sure he has convicted me that his will is that we do not depend on some series for our faith or any other type of image. For what can we say against catholics for their images of Jesus and statues of Mary if we put inside our houses a telegraphic image of Jesus and all the other people mentioned in the series. It is not the way to God’s salvation. Hence why I’m heavily concerned about the use of the technology such as phones and televisions. Amen. Please pray for me that God may widen my understanding through the Holy Spirit and help me understand the perfect will of Jesus. Amen

The problem I have with these series is this and I present it to you too in the form of a question;

Is this really what pleases God for me to do, for me to learn about him? Or, rather would he prefer me to learn about my Jesus the Messiah who’s knows as Yeshua and Jehova through the living words found only in the Bible. Amen

The issue I am concerned with is how many critics of depictions of Jesus is the lack of confidence in people to distinguish between the real Jesus and the acting or pictures. No actor can truly depict a real life figure like Jesus accurately. It’s a portrayal trying to represent someone who lived hundreds of years ago. If people are incapable of understanding a movie is not reality perhaps it’s the fault of pastors who aren’t teaching properly. In my eyes the second commandment is about creating an image or an idol we worship. Clearly it borders on sin to believe a Jim Caviezel is Jesus or his likeness. But I think people are smart enough to make the distinction. Criticism is ok but when these ideas come up we should be pointing people to read scripture and get to know the real Jesus.

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

I wrote this comment as a response but I think its a good point for people to recognize. “We should just respect other peoples convictions instead of minimize them. If it causes people break the 2nd commandment and stumble, then I don’t see why they shouldn’t avoid watching it? Also working for money isn’t evil, that’s not a biblical teaching at all. And watching things on youtube and Netflix isn’t sinful. If it violates a commandments and the conscience then I would abstain from certain things. I had to stay off social media, not because social media is sinful but it was becoming an idol in my life. And for some shows and media can become an idol. Instead of turning to Gods word we can turn to shows and movies of Jesus. I did this with the Prince of Egypt for many years. For some people they can watch hours of YouTube theological debates but never crack open their Bible for 5 minutes a day. I am guilty of this to. So it isn’t really far fetched to say the chosen can cause some to stumble.”

If God can find people through a death in the family, car wrecks, addiction and all the other circumstances that we’ve all saw God use to change people hearts toward The Gospel… Then it is ABSURD to think he can’t use a show based on Christ and the apostles just because it may have some inconsistencies with Scripture. I’m not sure how anyone could think that. That being said … if you feel convicted or choose not to watch it that’s fine, but to “condemn” or call out others for watching anything that points to the Bible is to attempt to direct people AWAY from something that could possibly get them closer to Gods word.

Luke 9:49-50 “John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.”

So this guy is saying we are supposed to live as our adversary doesn’t exist ?

Ephesians 5:11

Matthew 7:21-23 , this is why you need to keep an eye on your adversary and his tactics, not acting like he doesn’t exist . Clearly we need to watch out for what we consuming mentally if it doesn’t add up with scripture . Jesus says follow him, doesn’t mean we can’t love the nonbeliever but we play out seeds of scripture and let God do his work .
