I usually eat this with Pho soup. In vietnam this sauce is also used in various ways, for example with summer rolls (Gỏi cuốn) where you dip the roll into hoisin sauce with crushed peanuts

I once dated a Chinese woman. She was a very good cook, and I found it curious that she had never heard of hoisin sauce. I ended up bringing a jar for her to try, because she had no idea what I was even talking about. She explained to me that while it may be popular in the southern parts of China, it was not a item that was readily used in the region that she was from.

Perhaps you can explain this one... My Grandma from Southern China used to make these dumplings she called Gok Jai. They were steamed, and had a starch based chewy/translucent wrapper, sealed with a rope like pattern around the edges, and were filled with a ground pork based filling. But when I look up Gok Jai, it shows a sort of fried peanut pastry, not the steamed dumplings she used to make. I've heard that they are only called Gok Jai in a very specific region of China. Unfortunately my Grandma is no longer around for me to ask. Perhaps your dad knows how to make this dish? It seems like there's so little information on it on the internet, but apparently Gok Jai seems to be an uncommon term for it so I'm not even sure what to search for.

Hoisin is amazing. Love the Lee Kum Kee brand of it

I can only imagine it got its name because people intended it to be eaten with seafood.

I find Hoisin sauce is best used with fatty meats that are roasted. The sweetness complements well with the fat and saltiness of most roasted fatty meat.

I usually have it with either pork or beef. I'll cook some rice, have that in a bowl, and prepare whatever veggies I want, and then cook the meat with some hoisin sauce. and I also have some extra sauce on the side to dip the meat in

I make a sushi filling with shredded pork or duck meat, hoisin and julienned cucumber. Also good with grilled salmon.

It’s great in pho and in jian bing in a thin, even layer

Tương ăn phở is written on that hoisin sauce bottle. It translates to “sauce eat Phở” so that’s what I use it for. XD

Char siu pork. I always keep leftovers and make egg-friend rice with leftover char siu pieces the day after.

I'm a big fan of hoisin on mushu pork. I not only smear it on the pancake, I dribble more on the filling as I eat my way down. Can you have too much hoisin? I don't think so!

I use it as a dip for my homemade Sushi which is California rolls and Eel rolls.

I typically use it for Vietnamese cuisine, very prominent there.
