My local Asian supermarket, in a tiny provincial town in the Netherlands, was so proud when started stocking LKK Premium. I asked, because I hadn't seen it before, and didn't know "is this really better, will I taste the difference?" And he was, "Oh, gods, lady, YES!". He was right :-)

Lee Kum Kee Premium exclusively. I will always pay more for quality ingredients because they really do make a difference in the final dish.

I've tried 5 different oyster sauces available here in Germany and my favourite is Lady in a Boat (Lee Kum Kee Premium) brand. I use it in European cooking as well as in Asian cooking. It is wonderful!

My son cannot have bivalves (oyster, mussels, etc) so we were really happy when they came out with the mushroom stir fry sauce. Not as good as oyster sauce, but nice.
And the premium oyster sauce is definitely worth buying when you can find it.

I'm glad that these old-school labels still exist, and hope that the marketing departments of all brands will always balance the need for slick and trendy labelling vs. assisting those who have trouble reading or comprehending words. "Lady & child in boat" and "Panda" as part of the branding logos are recognisable to most, and will help those with reading difficulties. In some estimates, there are up to 10-20% in the adult population who cannot read and that just makes life so much more difficult for them when everything is just labelled in text or stylised letters.

I certainly did not know this!

My mom insists on buying the non-LKK versions and opts for one with a drawing of an oyster on the front. My understanding this is the more old-school kind that is becoming increasingly rare to purchase nowadays (in the NYC area at least).

For vegan options, there's a lkk green label and the kikoman oyster-flavored sauce. They use mushrooms instead of oyster extract. I use them since my partner cannot eat shellfish 😊

Im of Cantonese decent and ive grown up eating oyster sauce in most of my dishes. Its a sauce you can never get tired of it tastes so good. We've always used the panda version. I know that. Because I actually translated a leaflet for them around 15 years ago.

Makes sense. Many years ago, I found chunks of oyster in the premium version. I also recall it didn't store as well without refrigeration in tropical heat.
