Who freaking really cares about seeing accurate reflections on glass and water or ray traced shadows? People just want steady 60fps minimum

I used to be a graphics nerd needing the most crisp detail.... But a steady 60 FPS is more important for me now

Remember around 2014 when Sony trolled Microsoft about the way to share games? How times change…..

I think the outrage against all the BS Sony pulled yesterday (price hike, no disk drive or vertical stand) could have been partially mitigated if we had any games to play that can take advantage of the PS5 Pro. We barely have any games that can take full advantage of the base PS5 in the first place, so this makes the PS5 Pro the most useless console that no one asked for. Add to that the already disappointing state of gaming we are currently in, and this was a recipe for disaster.

1000 Euro for a console that Dosn't even allow you to backup your game saves

This generation lack of games is biggest issue...

I’ve got enough money to literally buy a ps pro 20 times over. But I’m still not buying it. I’ll keep my regular PS5. It’s not even just about the ridiculously high price. It’s about the fact they’ve got the nerve to charge that and get rid of a disc drive too. They’re trying to kill physical media.

Could justify that price to myself just about though if the drive was there. (and no I don’t care you can add one as that costs even more) no one should be supporting this.
People mock those who say they’re moving to PC but trying to be a PC is what Sony is headed towards more and more. How long before they try make consoles fully modular where they can charge a lot for a console but using cheap materials that you then have to regularly replace bit by bit? Or have to even build it yourself? They’ll do it if/when they can find a way and stupid people suck it up. Stop supporting greed!

The fact that 75% of gamers use performance mode tells you that 75% of gamers probably don't care about ray tracing, out of the other 25% I'd wager a decent amount of those can't tell the difference between ray tracing and traditional lighting techniques. With that said games developers should focus on optimisation and getting their games to run at a smooth 60fps and forget about ray tracing, most people wont even notice it but they will notice a dog$hit framerate.

It’s corporate greed A.F. Showing games from the PS4. Paying more for less. PS5 controllers got a price hike and still getting stick drift. A Monthly psn subscription. No shade to Astro Bot but it’s a reminder how ridiculous it is that there’s no 1st party single player games this year. Which is extra wild when selling new hardware!

Sony: Releases the bare minimum of an upgrade and wants to charge $700 people for it.

Microsoft: Talks up the future of their brand while laying off 650 Xbox employees and getting Series X/S games months after the PS5.

Nintendo: Just quietly releasing games on a system built around a tablet SoC from ten years ago and raking in megabucks.

The fact that some companies think that consumers don't own the digital games they buy, the fact that disc drives trying to be rendered obsolete is highly concerning.... We consumers have to be spending $100 to get it should push us to be fighting back.

I think Nintendo proves that graphics don’t matter games do

The worrying part is if the PS5P is $700, now, what's to stop Sony from making the PS6 $800? There's a threshold consumers are willing to pay for consoles because they've traditionally been the mass market entry into gaming. Ignorant people wish consoles would die, but the reality is the consoles contribute to PC gaming due to third-party cross platform titles, like it or not. However, at this point, when consoles are becoming as much as an entry level PC that can do and perform a lot better, the smart choice is a PC because there's no longer a good value for less (consoles).

no disc drive for 700$ worse than 30 fps imo

The lack of a disc drive is the major problem. Not including it means this product is not geared for the hardcore PlayStation heads, rather it is for the COD, Fifa, online gaming crowd who tend to stick to the same stable of disposable, yearly games. They will benefit from the extra fps boost and will be willing to pay a premium to get that advantage. Those are the whales, the ones who spend ungodly amounts of money on dlc's, cosmetics, and other digital content, which is making Sony more money than the games themselves. That's why generations don't matter anymore and why there are so few games being developed. That's why Sony closed Japan Studio and pivoted to games as a service. The PS5 Pro is the embodiment of all these decisions.

A $700 upgrade to get upscaled 4k at 60fps? Not even native? Are we serious rn

I never understood fidelity mode. So it's 4k, the second you move everything gets blurry.

Here's the thing, if developers really want to hit that 60fps mark like they claim to want, they are going to need to scale back on certain aspects of their games. Whether it be the graphics or the size of the game's world, something needs to be sacrificed. If they keep pushing these consoles to their limits, sure, we'll get great looking games, but the performance will always take a hit. The PS6 and XBox Series Infinite could be the strongest devices out there, but it won't really matter because developers will still want their games to look the best on the new machines. If there were more developers willing to scale down, then yeah, we could have more 60fps games.
