Why do I sometimes feel that pressure in my ears for almost a whole day and have a hard time releasing it? Swallowing, chewing, and whatever else sometimes never helps it. It feels so annoying and makes it hard to speak to others without properly hearing myself.

Be thankful you don't have problems with your eustachian tube like I do. I've had chronic ear blocking/popping for over three years now, and nothing has ever been able to fix it--made worse by already being half deaf as it is. So yeah, take care of your ears everyone.

omg i've wondered this for YEARS!!! I'm still curious as to why some people are more affected than others. I can remember having a really hard time with this as a little, even to the point of crying when my family would take vacations and go through/to higher elevations. ty scishow

Dark fun fact : when you take a breath and close your mouth and nose, and try to breathe out forcefully you'll hear pop and you could breathe through your Ears.

Amazing! I had some major ear ache on a flight this week and was going to check you guys covered this! It's like you read my mind!

On ascent: Don't do anything. Your ears will fix themselves normally.
On descent: Valsalva maneuver. Every flight surgeon I've ever spoken to has had no qualms about doing it, and actually encourages it. Trick is when you blow to not go overly hard or be stuffed up. That's when you get issues.

I can flex the back of my throat without swallowing, so equalizing my ears is easy. I'll be sure to do that if I ever go on a plane. :D

(I hear clicks in my ears and sometimes on road trips I can feel the pressure change when I do it. If there's a big enough pressure difference, I can release the pressure and sounds become louder since the pressure muffled sound a little. I guess from ear drums not being able to flex as much. So I definitely know that's what is happening. Don't have to worry about my ears ever popping so long as I'm paying attention to it at the right time. :D )

this video has helped me understand my ear problem so much better! I've gone to so many doctors and other people about my jaw/eat popping problem and none of them would ever tell me why it popped whenever opened my jaw, other than surgery would not fix it, so now I know why it happens and that its totally ok to do it!
