Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (“Popping Sound in Ears”) | Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction is a relatively common condition involving issues with the proper functioning of the eustachian tube, which is a ciliated tube located in the inner ear that is responsible for gaseous pressure regulation and drainage of middle ear fluid. A variety of conditions can lead to this condition including upper respiratory tract infections, allergies and recent vaccinations. In this lesson, we discuss the 3 types of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, along with the signs and symptoms, triggers of symptoms (ex. Airflight or scuba diving), how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.

It is amazing that I found this, I thought I am going crazy. I noticed this after having Covid… I have constant popping and like a squishy ticking… like I can hear my blood flowing in my ear and yes my voice sounds very load, but that has gotten better.

Like many others here, my ears (mainly the left ear) started clicking and popping out of nowhere 3 years ago and have not stopped since. My ENT has no answers and stated he cannot help me.

Watching completely your explanation it appears, it seems to me, seems, like I have this condition permanently.I have been to Otorhinolaryngologist but the wrenot able to determine my problem. They prescribe Hearing Aids that only magnifies the sound and I hear louder, but speech is confusing because I hear inside my head louder and I still have the resonance inside my head louder.Your description APPEARS to be a Eustachian dysfunction 'APPEARS' I do not know how to explain more accurate my problem but I am going crazy the way I perceive sound.

Oh hey, another thing I have that I didn't know was an actual Thing With A Name. My doctor explained to me years ago that my eustachian tubes don't close like they should and that was that.

ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO I FLEW & MY LEFT EAR NEVER POPPED FOR MONTHS. NOW OF I SLEEP ON MY LEFT MY EAR 'CLOSES' OR SOMETIMES CLOSES DURING THE DAY. THE ONLY WAY IT BECOMES OPEN IS IF I PUT MY KNUCKLE IN MY EAR IT WILL POP.

Im a 50yr old male that has had a blocked ear for the last 4 days. Ultimately came 2 days in from contracting Influenza A. Thinking i required a wax micro suction, doctor said its not wax, rather fluid behind the ear that has to drain naturally.
Its been quite debilitating as ive ben bed ridden for days. When i try to get up and move around i get dizzy and vertigo. Hopefully something gives soon.

Thanks for sharing that, I will look into it, who administers the Botox injections? I get Botox injections in the back of my neck for muscle spasms I suffer with Cervical Dystonia. How do they reach the inner ear with the Botox? I really appreciate the info. 😊

I drive trucks for a living and go through an under water tunnel about 4 times a day and 5-6 days a week. Do you think that could cause something like this? The tunnel is 40 feet deep from top to water surface and about 3k feet long

For me I heard my voice and breathing and fullness in my ear, but after covering my nose and blowing, I constantly deal with "popping" sounds whenever I swallow, burp, yawn. It's been ten days and it happened randomly i'm not sure what I have or what to do. Can anyone give me some tips?

Anytime i try to pop my ears, it doesn't pop but just collects the air and when i release the ear from popping it doesn't completely empty out. The clicking sound is a nuisance and sometimes if i want to sleep, I'll be distracted by the pressure in my ears. Though i can hear perfectly, it's still a nuisance

Same happened to me. I had Covid for the third time and my right ear started making popping sounds without stopping for two days. I was able to stop it by doing pressure massages 💆 underneath the ear and where the jaw meets the air. I also did yawning and some jaw movement. I realise this may not work for everybody but it’s worth trying. Hope you all find a solution.
