Thank you. As a Puerto Rican, it’s actually very nice to hear people talk about it and sharing its history and culture. Representation is very rare for Puerto Rico since we are part of the US so SOME people think we have the same culture as the US

I’m for Puerto Rico and we are known to the US as Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico, and yeah basically a lot of people are leaving the island since the government is going downhill, electricity payments are getting high because of luma, politicians keep stealing money from the civilians, and some people in here are just what we call “cafre”.Also, everything you said about the history of Puerto Rico is correct which enlightens me because ppl get to learn more and more about us, thank you!

1:53 correction; the legislators didn't want the Philippines to become a state because it had a large non-American population. America saw the Philippines as a overseas dominion and thus outside of metropolitan US. It wasn't as race-driven as the Puerto Rico issue (which itself was more about protecting wealthy farmers/individuals than what the demographics looked like)

Nice videos man, short and to the point. No fillers and time dedicated to sponsors just to try to get to the 10 min mark. Kudos to you.

Although US citizenship for Puerto Ricans was discussed since becoming a US colony, the process was accelerated for geopolitical reasons in WW1. Puerto Rico’s position helped the US defend any attacks in the Caribbean, and also facilitated transport towards the Panama canal. They did not however wish to grant full citizenship as most natives of the Island were illiterate at the time. Puerto Ricans were not necessarily forced to participate in the war, but they were however encouraged to enlist. Lots of people did to prove their worth and trust. The repercussions? Generational inferiority complex haunts the Island through cultural subtleties to this day, and not everyone is able to reach fulfilling lives because of this gap in emotional intelligence, education, and accessibility. The US military also tested biological weapons and left our lands contaminated without any care.

A lot of us don’t want statehood because we don’t want to end up like a Hawaii, with residents of the island being overpriced and being forced to either live in poverty on the island or move out because of the US making the island mainly a tourist destination. It’s already happening but not to the extent it would be happening if PR became a state. Also, unless you have a big enough property you don’t have to pay homeowners tax there, which many puertoricans wouldn’t be able to afford if PR became a state. The good thing about that is that in PR your house is actually yours and not under threat of being taken away if you don’t pay taxes to a government that will just pocket it and not do anything for the community with it.

As a Puerto Rican, I support independence, We've always been a separate nation, and as such we deserve self determination.

I just have to say I love how you fit so much information in 2-3 minutes. I’ve binged watched several of your videos. I don’t think I would have clicked if it said 20 min video. Thankyou!!!

the thing that's stopping Puerto Rico from becoming a state is the US Congress. I think the only way it can become a state, is if we also admit another place at the same time, that's more conservative leaning to balance everything out

Thanks a lot. I’m Puerto Rican and I like how you talked about us. Very respectful.

As a Puerto Rican myself I hope we gain our independence in the future. Statehood is simply political theater at this point and after the supreme court decision of SSI checks the sentiment is pretty clear.

That Puerto Rico is a de facto US colony and we are better off being an independent nation than being under the US's thumb.

You got the meaning of “Organized” wrong which means that there is an Organic Act for a territory. American Samoa is an unorganized territory but is still self-governed because it’s government is not set up via an Organic Act

According to the insular cases created by the Supreme Court of the US, Puerto Rico is not part of the United States but belongs to the United States. Therefore the American citizenship Puerto Ricans have is not the same as that of citizens from the mainland. This was further emphasized by recent SCOTUS talks. Figure that one out.

I actually went to Puerto Rico last month from the 15th to the 17th. Was my first time ever traveling that far away from my home. Had an amazing time. Hands down the best vacation I have ever had!

As a Puerto Rican, I appreciate this two and a half minutes. Idk if you have more vids of Puerto Rico but I think it would be a great idea, including talking about Vieques and Culebra. Keep up the good work ^ ^
