I honestly think that these lessons can be kind of confussing even for intermediate learners, the majority of native speakers never use these words

They are not real words but corruptions of real words. It is done all over the world mainly with European languages like Spanish in this instance. Sticking with the Antilles you the same with Haitians and french or Jamaica and english.
