For anyone not using a Sony camera, the alternative is ‘Mercalli pRoDAD’ and if you’re using a BMPCC then you have a gyro stabilisation built into Davinci Resolve free and studio

This is why I love my Black Magic pocket cinema + Resolve. GPU gyro stabilization right in resolve, it's super fast rendering right in your editor. No fumbling with external programs

I’m probably not the typical demographic for your channel (amateur videographer turned dad), or maybe I am, but as a run and gun shooter shooting footage of his kids and family, this comes especially useful for me. As any parent would know, who the f has time for gimbals when you’re trying to keep up with a few toddlers, already lugging around a ton of baby gear. It’s the reason why I swapped out my a7iii for an a7c in the first place. Quick, compact, ready at a moments notice. I’ll give it a try, thanks man

I have used CB for over a year for weddings, and honestly it is by far the best feature of newer sony cameras. I use reel smart motion blur with 0, 3 motion blur, and you couldn't tell that I didn't use a ND filter

After adding a crop factor (or minimum cropping ratio slider) on to the footage inside catalyst browse, in the bottom right of the screen u have a button "analyze". You can see the difference in your footage after clicking it. If the button doesn't work, maybe try asking for some tech support. Hope this helps

You need to analyze first then you can adjust it as you like and export it. We can also add a bit of motion blur later on if that’s the case. To me I can see the amount of stabilization necessary and added before exporting it. Catalyst browse is game changer. But, it does not replace a gimbal. Actually as you said, it’s a complement to the gimbal.

I hate that it downgrades your exports from 10bit to 8bit unless you upgrade to catalyst prepare 😑

Hi Henbu, love this video! I've been watching all of your stuff for months now. Perfect balance of informative, entertaining, and good cinematic value.

3:48 I don't know when it got updated, but with analyze it stabilizing the preview for me.
Other option is Gyroflow, it is free and it allows you to
-stabilize a smaller part of the footage,
-it can correct rolling shutter
-lock horizon,
-adjust cropping ratio
-you can export in prores,
-and it is fast,
but you have to record with IBIS turned off, more complicated because you have more control.

It also works with the ZV-1 as I have one and catalyst works well however it's *SO* slow. It needs GPU acceleration or even use all cores to their max on a machine.

What about the 8bit limitation exporting out of Catalyst B? You forgot to mention that, and that’s actually the biggest dealbreaker for most of us who are serious about color grading our footage

GyroFlow is the answer to my sony camera. think you'll like it too since you're looking for realtime preview and batch render like i was.

Most phones nowadays have gyro sensors so you can record gyro data with that and throw it into the Gyroflow software. It takes a bit more time to sync and organize files than CB but it's much more accessible as it'll work with any camera. I recently tried it out on my channel, and while it's a bit annoying, the results are just as good.

The software UI and experience is rough. It just adds too much time to workflow. I may revisit when it’s a bit more optimized or even Sony can do it in-body. How wild would that be?

Software like this has been around for a long time. Today's the software is much better than say 10years ago. I'll continue using my gimbal but this software is very interesting none the less.

You just saved me some $$$ and all the time and hassle to carry a cymbol and setup, just for casual videos when I go out and ride. This also comes as a DaVincie Resolve plugin which is sweet, looking into getting into this to up my videos. Even more sweet it works on Linux. 🔥

A lot of editing programs can use tracking to smooth video.
It’s not a replacement for a gimbal, but should only be used to recover footage that was not able to be filmed with a gimbal.

Catalyst Browse is available as a plugin to Premiere Pro. The cost is $99/year. It speeds up work flow as a plugin. Also, if you shot in 8K (e.g. Sony a1), the exported clips are in 4K.

Hey henbu sick video, quick question tho! When shooting car content, are you still using 1/250th shutter speed? and does catalyst browse look good when paired with a gimble or does it create that "floaty look"? Also what if you are shooting in the evening? turning up your shutter speed means less light IN if I am not mistaken... how do you combat this?
