I picked this up for sale from Amazon Black Friday sale for $749, I also bought the additional Crucial 8gb DDR4 3200MHz stick of RAM upgrade for $18 & a 1 TB Crucial P3 NVMe for $49 for a total of $816. I also did a thermal paste upgrade & also used a laptop fan stand, with these upgrades which all ended up still costing less than the regular price of this laptop made this a very capable laptop. All of the upgrades were easy & took less than 15 minutes to complete.

The most surprising thing about this laptop is that it's been updated design wise. It doesn't perform as bad as other priced competitors, but it's not super laptop. I think this is great if you want to start into PC gaming but want to keep for long.

in my country laptops are VERY expensive, i bought this on sale for 1000 euros. but it had 16gb ram dual channel, 4060 and 1tb ssd (and its 17.3 inch) and i am VERY happy with it. it is amazing, runs all games i play at very high/ultra settings without a single issue. it can be loud but i dont mind that part as that and sound is my only issue(sound could be much louder & better, but besides that its perfect for me) also to add, im seriously impressed with internet speed - im not expert but on my old lenovo legion with 1650 thats about 5 years old, i was having around 60 ping in online games, and now in same games i have about 20% less ping on same wifi just by using this laptop.

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago. Key things were:
Build actually feels quite sturdy and doesn't feel like a budget laptop. The power brick is also quite slim so the whole thing is very light and easy to carry around. The keyboard definitely isn't as flimsy as depicted, it doesn't just detach and requires a lot of force to flex. Definitely agree with the speakers - completely unusable. For the same price there's definitely no reason to go for 4050 or last gen 3060, when you can just stick an extra 8GB ram in it for $20 to achieve similar performance to the other 4060s that cost $100+ more. Ultimately you get what you pay for - G5 is good value for budget, but sits at that lower tier of 4060s.

this is definitely one of those no matter how cheap it might be is just not worth the disadvantages imo

Even if I'm not buying this laptop, I still watched the whole video because I know I'll learn something. Thanks to your channel I now know a lot about laptops and what I should look for when I'm purchasing a new one.

Just grabbed one with the 12650h. If power isn't a concern I would go with a different 4060 at 110w but I'm off grid with solar power and starlink so I wanted something that will really sip power and this seemed like the perfect solution.

[05:33] Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see the performance breakdown and comparisons with other laptops in the same price range. The battery life on the G5 seems surprisingly decent, and the upgrade options are a plus.

[08:20] I'm curious about the cooling performance with the cooling pad. Did you notice any significant improvement in thermal throttling or overall performance when using it?

[12:13] As for the screen quality, it's unfortunate that it's not up to par with some other budget laptops. Did you find the screen's performance to be a deal-breaker for gaming and content consumption?

[19:33] Your comparisons with the Acer Nitro 5 are very informative. It seems like the Nitro 5 offers some advantages, especially in terms of build quality and keyboard. Based on your review, it does seem like the G5 is a decent budget option, but the Nitro 5 might be the better overall choice.

Thanks again for the thorough review!

i think from now on you should also tell us what ram is being used in the graphs, clearly in this video, the 4060 was being hold back more by single channel ddr4 ram than the wattage. at 5:34 it shows more than 20% performance improvement by just giving the laptop dual channel ram

Definitely not regretting getting the Legion 5 with the 3060 after this one.

if you get a great deal with an external monitor and extra ram, repaste tweak it a little it can be a very good option for a lot

Do you have a list of which laptops can be played with the lid closed and which ones can't? It's weird and I know, but this is very important for me to know this, any info is highly appreciated, all of your videos are amazing and I am very thankful for all the help you give people for laptops, you do a great service to us all!

Just a few mistakes in this video, the time stamp is wrong, and the Gigabyte G5 is shown to have a i9-12500H, just wanted these to be rectified but great video by the way, very grateful to you Jarrod, i had brought acer helios 300 (2022) on your recommendation and loved it.

@5:07 Mine is also missing the screw! Either forgotten on the assembly line or they just didn’t care. Otherwise the laptop is fantastic - I have the RTX 4060 i7-12600H model. Only complaint is it’s loud. On anything I play. (Yes, I do have Nvidia GeForce set to use the RTX 4060 and not the integrated).

I had Gigabyte G5 with i5 11400H/3050/16 and it was powerful enough for me since it was my first gaming laptop. The problem was one of the two fans were always spinning 100% even in quiet mode. Fan curve in Gigabyte center did absolutely nothing. It was very noisy and distracting since it almost never went quiet. I was also reaching thermal throttling most of the times playing Warzone 1. It was so frustrating with the fans that I had to sell the laptop. Maybe that was a problem just with my laptop. It was still a nice entry into gaming laptops tho :)
