What was the most impactful of these teachings for you?

My biggest benchmark for my growth is how much I REACT to things out of my control. How I react to those close to me etc.

1. Pare down and focus 0:02 - Determine what is under your control and what isn't. Focus on, and improve, that which is under your control. Cultivate indifference to things outside of your control, don't worry about them, don't even think of them.

2. Examine your progress 1:14 - Criticize nobody, blame nobody, accuse nobody; say nothing about yourself "being someone" or "knowing something". When frustrated or impeded, only blame yourself; if complimented by others, you laugh; if criticized, you ignore. Relax in your motivations and vanish harmful desire. Take full responsibility for yourself and constantly examine yourself in these areas.

3. Premeditatio Malorum 3:23 - Know your field inside and out. Breath and live your work, whatever that it. Prepare and practice to become an expert in it. If you're rushing to prepare when an opportunity arises, you're already too late. "If you're looking for your weapons, you're already beaten". Make sure you know your stuff inside and out. You gotta be ready.

4. Be a little deaf 5:09 - Don't be on the look out for things to be offended and upset about. "It is not to your benefit to see and hear everything. Many injuries ought to pass over us; if you ignore them, you get no more injury from them. "Choose not to be harmed and you won't feel harmed. Don't feel harmed and you haven't been".

5. Be forgiving with others 6:24 - A stoic man is strict and self-disciplined; where other people are fine making excuses or taking shortcuts, we are not; where other people wing it or do what's easiest, taking the path of least resistance, we don't. That's really the essence of stoicism. But, our standards are for us only, not for others. It is unfair to hold other people to the very same standards we (stoics) hold ourselves, as they didn't sign for it, and it is often counterproductive too, as this burns them out. This philosophy is about *your* self-improvement. Be severe only with yourself, not with others; be strict with yourself and forgiving of others. "[...] but here it was (in stiffness and severity) that the rare goodness of the nature of Marcus Aurelius shone out in all its brilliancy: His severity was confined only to himself".

Just starting my journey at 55; I had to remind myself the other day, people don't know what I'm going through, and it isn't their concern, they don't know, they don't have to care, with that I'm unfocused on the issue...it's not about them seeing me, it's me seeing me.

Last point really resonated with me. I can be harsh on my Mum. I will work on not judging and criticizing her so much, as well as self reflecting more!

Be severe only with yourself!! Your standards are for you! This really teaches me to expect and be severe only with myself, not with others.

I think stoicism has been a big help to me personally just being able to take small moments everyday and stop a negative behavior like an incident of road rage by simply reminding myself that I can only control my own behaviors not others....

Thank you so much Ryan. All I can say is that stoicism is exhilarating. I am a subscriber and every video knocks my socks off. I took away so many fantastic teachings from this. Just Wow!
The one that blew me away was:
His severity was confined only to himself. That's exactly the key.
It's about being strict with yourself, and forgiving of other people.
That's not only a kind way to be, it's the only effective way to be.
It's the only defense to being constantly upset and let down.

I am going to print this out and put it everywhere I can. Thank you so much for this!

For me it's the ability to set boundaries and control what drama is allowed inside my life. Luck favors the prepared.

Ok, I do need to improve. I never paid such attention to politics before. I’m doing all the things (ranting) I shouldn’t. I only make myself angry and upset long after the incident. Gotta go write this all down...TY again for the posts!

I say this in jest:
Ryan: How to know you are making progress...you care less about what others think.
Also Ryan: Please like, comment and subscribe....

These teachings are improving my life but it takes much practice, it's so easy to get involved in daily conflicts and hard to turn away from it, but it makes my life better to think back not to get involved with trash negative talk about anything or anyone.
