USB-C Is Officially Coming To iPhones: Everything You Need To Know

It's just ironic how the Apple ecosystem is so well integrated together between iPhones, iPads and Macs, except for the ports they use.

I recognize this man because he does car videos, never knew he did videos on this channel!

Another route Apple can go is splitting the pins on lightning. That way, it can be backwards compatible, and og lightning can be forwards compatible, kinda like thunderbolt and usb-c. Splitting the pins would also allow Apple to maintain superior durability in comparison to USB-C while eliminating the issue of slower data transfer speeds as well as keeping exclusive licensing.

As someone that doesn’t use the lightening port for anything but charging, I prefer it way more. Its easier to clean, its smaller, slimmer, doesn’t have a stick in the middle of the port that can break or bend.

The problem with USB-C will be if you accidentally bend the pin on the phone it will be a pain getting it back into place so in my opinion iPhone should keep the lightning connector.

For file transfers the iPhones also have AirDrop, and since the newer iPhones have WiFi 6 they can essentially transfer at USB 3 speeds.

Also: Durability. The biggest failure point for Lightning is dust compaction, which can easily be fixed. The biggest failure point for USB, any version, is the pogo pin breaking due to forceful insertion, and the second biggest, mostly on budget devices, is the port being shoved into the device due to forceful insertion. It would be great if a future version of USB got rid of that pogo pin once and for all.

It would’ve been funny if this video had been 1 second long and you just saying the word… “money”

A very Apple movement would be implementing a propietary communication protocol with lot of cool things that can only be used through their USB C cables

It's actually designed a lot better or if you wiggle a USBC Cable in the port the port will break and if you wiggle a lightning cable and a lightning Port the lightning cable will break that's a lot easier to change a cable than a port

I personally like the lighting cable and never really have a problem with it charging slow

As a person with an IPhone, biggest hit I can consider is the loss of the MFI certification for accessories.

Essentially Apple has set standards that items made (legally) with the Lightning connector must meet.

This includes a DAC for headphones, which makes even low budget headphones sound almost infinitely better through an IPhone. It also includes some generic quality control restrictions, but the DAC is the thing that’s the most readily noticeable.

Only time I connect my iPhone to my iMac is to add new music a few times a year, photos automatically updated through the cloud, I charge my phone overnight, so it doesn’t make any difference if it is super fast or not. I have a ton of lightning cables at home that I would rather not throw away. I hope they don’t change to USB C until after I buy my iPhone 15 Pro Max next year.

it’s a shame because i like the physical design of the lightning port, but it’s a shame that it’s so slow. the one thing i really dislike about usb c is the thin bit of plastic in the port, making cleaning it extremely difficult if not impossible

The problem isn't necessarily the lightning port, but the connection technology that travels through it. The iPad pro before switching to USBC had USB 3 through the lightning port. It's just that apple has stubbornly only put USB 2 on iphones. So apple could use USBC on iPhone while the link speed stays USB 2

Also do not forget to add that the usb c is more fragile as the lightning It breaks faster as a lightning. Simple test use a metal object and run it around the UCB c connectors a few times do the same with the lightning and see wat one still works.

4K vidéo is one quarter the size of 8k, not just double, but otherwise great video
