Regarding Stairway, Plant said in an interview that he doesn’t hate it, but it’s a powerful song that belongs to a particular time, coming from the mind of a 23-year-old. He said that if he wrote some of the music he would have felt it more personally, but his job was to ‘write the lyrics and sing’, so he doesn’t feel the connection as much as the other three or a listener.

The first time I heard D’yer Mak’er I loved it. As a teenager in the 80’s I started really liking Led Zeppelin so I started buying their albums, which I was surprised there were so many of. When I bought Houses of the Holy, I listened to it for months. I started loving reggae around the same time but never realized D’yer Mak’er was supposed to be their attempt at it. I might of also started really liking a green plant at the same time so it makes sinse (milla).
