I’ve been learning Korean for about a month and the alphabet was really easy for me to learn. Now I can read it but idk what it means 😭😭

as a korean, i didn’t know the letters were designed to represent the way your mouth moves to pronounce it. that’s really cool. thank you for this

This feels like the indie game dev meme where they talk about all the hidden secrets they put in the game.

This is exactly what I needed! I don't know Korean, but I did know that the official written language was designed like this so that the language would be intuitive to learn and read for all the illiterate people who already spoke Korean and I know that the current written Korean was either made by the then ruler or it was created at the then ruler's behest; I was telling my partner about this and she asked for examples, so this video is going to be super helpful for furthering that conversation. ❤

except for the fact that they forgot to update the written words as the language changed, so now some words arent said like how theyre written

Fun fact. Hangeul is being used in indo one of the regional language's writing system because they never had a writing system to begin with. So now hangeul is being used to document the language and to teach to elementary kids

I agree it’s definitely so easy to learn that it can be learned before even knowing how to speak the language, I would argue that the ‘ma’ sound should look like = if it was lips together, but I guess it’s representing the ‘a’ part, either way, I love Korean, wish I had more uses for it where I live

I loved learning Hangul! If learning Korean seems like too overwhelming I definitely recommend at least learning the writing system

Hangeul is my FAVORITE writing system. I also really like how characters are stacked into syllables. Sejong the Great really lived up to that title

When the ancestor of our alphabet was written, it did in fact have shapes to let you know it's sound.
A- shaped like an ox head with horns, word for ox - Aleph
B- shaped like a simple small two room tent (house), word for house - Beit
D- door shape, word - Dalet
R- head and neck, word - Resh
L- staff shape, word - Lamed
K- shoulders and arms (to represent palms of the hand, shaped more like this [ originally), word - Kaph
M- waves shape for water, word - Mem
