ABOUT
_
In this video, I talk about Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment, truth, lies / self-deception, trust, walking your own path, learning, and the improvement of knowledge.

To walk your own path is to realize that you are always acting on your own knowledge. Even when you’re getting directions from someone else, you choose to take their advice based on your own understanding of the world. And when you realize that all of your actions always come back to your own knowledge in some form, and you decide to take responsibility for that, and you decide not to blame anyone else for your actions, then you’re walking your own path.

But to go wrong in your own way means that you realize that, at some point, you will come across an anomaly. And this anomaly will falsify or contradict your knowledge. And if you admit to being wrong, if you don’t ignore the anomaly, if you face your errors head on, then as Dostoevsky said, your errors can move you closer to the truth.

“going your own way” is much more difficult than it sounds. People often think they are thinking for themselves but in fact they are just being influenced by everyone and everything around them and not really relying on their own reasoning and objective observation of all data available.

This reminds me a mindful quote from Dalai Lama:
"People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road does not mean they are lost."
Thanks for sharing 🙂

2:18 to 7:12 This reminds me of this argument with my boyfriend on dishes. He asks me to neatly stack dirty dishes in 1 section of the 2 sinks so that it's easier to use the space around it.
I disagreed with him. I don't see a reason to stack dirty dishes. If it's annoying, wash 'em. If you need the other sink to wash and prep food, cram the dishes into the other sink somehow. I don't mind if I accidentally move the running water into the full sink and get splashed from an angled bowl. As long as the dishes are not placed in a way where they can fall off the sink, it's all good. But I'm at a loss if I should do his way or find some sort of compromise.

There was also an argument on slanting the plates at an "optimal" direction on the dish rack. Boyfriend places them in one preferred direction while I usually put them in the other direction.

I made a decision last year that I'm starting to regret now. But I wonder if I could've made a better decision as I was ignorant back then.

I like him how he's now giving advice while mentioning that it's he's understanding of xyz theory. What I learne from this is that with all this knowledge and research he puts in his work he still open to anomaly and brave enough to accept others people understanding even if it is wrong or unwise.

I know it's quite late.. but I'd like to contradict.. this brings us back to that cliff the grandpa asked you to jump from.. how would you know if you'll die or get injured if you jump? it is because you've seen others do it and you learnt from their mistakes.. you can't always keep making mistakes to learn.. sometimes, you have to learn from other people's mistakes.. coz you repeating them may be scarring or even fatal.. science has always been like that.. we didn't reinvent gravity or relativity.. we took Newton's and Einstein's theories to move forward and develop space shuttles based on those theories... if everybody keeps making mistakes to learn, humanity won't progress..

Genial! 7:25 👏👏👏, i quote:
"To walk your own path is to realize that you are always acting on your own knowledge. Even when you're getting directions from someone else, you choose to take their advice based on your own understanding of the world"
I love that insight!😎
Gives a lot to think about 🤔

Then as consequence 7:38 :
"And when you realized that all of your actions always come back to your own knowledge in some form, and you decide to take responsability for that, and you decide not to blame anyone else for your actions, then you're walking your own path".
