I will agree with that fee with me paying more for the platinum already :)

I’m my case the $10k purchase protection, trip delay, interruption and cancellation insurance, the baggage protection, costumer service, the ability to book directly with airlines for the 3x, the 4x on food, the credits and the good referral offers more than offset the annual fee. I value the credits at $180 so for me I pay $70 to get all the benefits and with my grocery spend alone I make a lot of points. Don’t downgrade to the Green, you will lose the ability to earn that bonus! ✌️

To answer your question, you cannot double dip and get two credits on one transaction. I have already tried and spoke to Amex about it. You can't buy shake shack with Uber Eats and get two credits. You would just get one 10.00 UE credit.

Also, the credit will usually post within 2 weeks. The verbiage says 8 weeks on the site on average, but I usually see it within about 14 days.

The key to making the Gold card valuable for me is the following:
-I spend about 10K a year between food and dining - 40K points $400 value
-I have the Amex gold loaded in my Uber Account and usually order Wing Stop once monthly. The key is to PICK IT UP and not do delivery. $12 meal - so effectively it turns into a $2 meal thanks to the monthly $10 credit - $120 value/yr
- I go to Cheesecake factory with the Ms. 2 times per year. - $20 credit (note I do not use the whole credit because its not in my naturally spending.
- Amex has no international fees so it is the perfect travel credit card. Not to mention the insurance it will provide (rental car and baggage lost insurance automatically provided)

So effectively the card costs $250 but yields $540 for a net $290 value plus the last security benefits.

The Amex gold card is out of my natural spending. Cause I don’t dine out

I don’t eat out mostly cook at home, so I won’t be utilizing that $240 but for the first year. I will get the Gold for that bonus the first year . Then second year I will transfer those MR pts to my Amex BBP and cancel the Gold

I am, both Grubhub and Uber Eats I order and only do pick-up… I also have complimentary Uber One thru my Capital One Savor One Card…

If you get any delivery it’s not worth it, first 2 years pay for themselves with retention bonus on year 2. You should never go outside your spending categories in my opinion! I lean towards 2 years then evaluate in year 3.

I have the Green right now and right now for me, the Gold is NOT worth it. I am starting to shop at regular supermarkets now and right now, I'm better off with a no annual fee option which I have with the Savor One. Or with Amex points, I'm better off with either the regular EveryDay or the Blue Business Plus right now at 2x per dollar.

I have 5 kids so grocery is a big spend, we eat out plenty also, Grubhub pickup and uber eats pick up, food only card worth it for me

GrubHub pickup! UberEATS Pickup 😂😮 And I travel fairly often but dont rent cars so i always use my uber credits.

Ordering from UberEATS will not trigger the dining credit because it codes as UberEATS and not the Restaurant.

Honestly, the Gold card is a points earner but if you dont use it enough to actually earn points for travel, its not Going to be worth it in year 2. Those 90k points can be worth around $1800 if you transfer them to airline transfer partners. Ive earned over 400k MR pts this year so far and thats just from using my cards and getting a 70k MR points retention offer for my Platinum card
