This was a protest to the war and the draft. The rich could avoid being drafted, and Fogerty was not a rich mans son. Fun fact, my husband was the second to the last man to be drafted in America. They used to put the list up on tv.

The song was written when lower and middle class men were being drafted to fight in Vietnam. If you were a Senator's son or a Millionaire's son then usually strings were pulled so you didn't get sent to Vietnam.

CCR has such an iconic sound and there's no mistaking those vocals!!! 💯🔥

The CCR is from El Cerrito, California near San Francisco. John Fogarty was the lead singer, lead guitarist, and wrote most, if not all of their songs. It's a protest against Vietnam and the draft.

this song is in reference to the type of people that were drafted into the Vietnam war, if you were poor you went, but if you were a fortunate son i.e a senators son or a rich son or just a son of some fortunate person you were spared from being drafted into the war....

CCR was a San Francisco area band. They may have sounded like they were from the bayou, but they were from the bay area.

I always thought it amazing how they are THE "swamp music" band even though they are from Northern Cali. CCR is quite a rabbit hole. Speaking of covers, Children of Bodom covered another of their hits, Lookin Out My Backdoor. And for next year's 13 days of Halloween, Bad Moon Rising would be a good pick. And please PLEASE, when we get there, please do the extended version of Suzie Q.

The best Vietnam protest song ever. One brother went to Vietnam and my first husband died there and 10 years before I met him my second husband did two tours there as well. My life was profoundly affected back then. I am a two time widow of Vietnam Veterans.
CCR was from Southern California.

Creedence Clearwater Revival formed in 1967 are from El Cerrito California just outside of San Francisco, their genre of music is called swamp rock, they are absolute legend. If you haven't yet, you should listen to "Bad Moon Rising" or "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" or maybe "Run Through The Jungle". This was great, thanks!

This is also a protest song if you listen to the lyrics. Creedence was a major producer of songs about growing up poor in the bayou country. Which for a San Francisco band is interesting. 'Born on a bayou', Green River, Proud Mary, Lookin' out my back door', all sorts of great songs from them.

🎶🎸🎤🎸🎶 Thanks for the jam session! My favorite CCR song is "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?". I grew up in a military household & my dad is from Lubbock, so CCR was in constant rotation with all the other rock. P.L.U.R.R. from ATX y'all!!

CCR is one of my two favorite classic rock bands, def my favorite American classic rock band. I love their whole catalogue. Great songs every one. Suggestions: Heard It Through The Grapvine, Someday Never Comes, Walking On The Water, Midnight Special, Travelin' Band, As Long As I Can See The Light, Before You Accuse Me, Feelin' Blue, Lodi, or Wrote A Song For Everyone...

CCR might possibly have had the greatest burst of creativity in a ridiculously short period of time. The sheer number of banger they produced in only about 4 years is remarkable.

While they were from California, John and Tom Fogerty visited their grandparents in Mississipi fairly often as children and were exposed to the delta blues there, which is why they have that"swamp music" sound.

Up Around The Bend is one of my favorite songs by them, Who’ll Stop The Rain, and their cover of I heard it through the grapevine

you can do a random select CCR song and it will be a banger. Grew up listening to these guys, one of my dads favorite.
Id personally recc "Green River" followed by "Travelin Band" and the "Ramble Tamble" that will give you a small slice of the diff styles this band puts out, and also, not to mention, the lead singer, John Fogerty, went solo, and still puts out music now, i think he is in his 80s(?). He does youtube vids with his family.
