When I wrote this song, my life was pretty chaotic. I knew my marriage was going to break up. My band was falling apart. I was beginning to sense the darkness that was Fantasy Records. This song was inspired by my parents' divorce when I was a young boy and the effect it had on me. At the time, they told me, "Someday, you'll understand." The truth of this is that you never do and I found myself facing this as a parent. The irony was painful and inescapable. - John Fogerty, liner notes to "Wrote a Song for Everyone", Vanguard Records, 2013

"As long as I can see the light." another underrated gem.

Definitely underrated. A top shelf CCR track and excellent reaction analysis.

This is my first time hearing this one. As a grandfather, I understand songs like this so much more. I wasn't there when my dad died and it still hurts.

Such a sad song with a lot of truth. Heartfelt vocals, great song. Just don’t put off important things, or you’ll never get the chance.

Love this tune so so much. It's another Cats In The Cradle type of tune... Not wanting your kids to repeat the same mistakes and seeing it repeat

Along the same line is Long as I Can See the Light. Great and under rated.

CCR is a group that just gets in your feelings.Fogerty's voice with that gritty honest tone.So real so true.In "Someday Never Comes", he seems to be trying to understand what happened to him as a child when his father left, but before he could he found himself in the same type of situation. These things seem to just repeat themselves generation after generation, until someone is strong enough to stop the cycle and live happily ever after.
You have to just put in the work.Do your best to give 100% to preserve your marriage and family, because the children are watching, listening and learning from your example.

It's about repeating patterns from generation to generation. Absent father and then the kid grows up and misses his own kid's birth.
The message is do it now, don't put it off until "someday". Be there for the ones you love and tell them how you feel.

Got into this song as a teenager. Very underrated song in general. Love the message...I always saw it as a son dealing with the pain of divorce and losing the day to day interaction with his father whom he loved and then after time and tears, he unfortunately did the same thing to his son, because there were many things he didn't know.

I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. This is a really great song with a strong message, but not reacted to much.

I think this song is just acknowledging our doomed hope that "someday" in the future it will all make sense and be clear. But life isn't like that. Life is spent on the edge of WTF!!

This is such a great song. Coming from a broken family, this song always hit a little different for me. Great hidden gem from their catalog.

Such a sad song. One of my favorites. So well written. Says so much with not a lot of lyrics. Plus, the guitar riffs are superb. Really sets the tone.
