An Arctic outbreak has plunged much of the United States into freezing temperatures. To climate change skeptics, the cold weather is proof that global warming is fake. Here’s why they’re wrong.

00:00 Intro
00:35 What is climate change?
01:25: What about the cold?
02:05 Could global warming be intensifying cold spells?

I'm 42, and I have lived in Chicago land most of my life, and the weather is the same as it always has been. One winter, it is cold one winter, it's not. we used to call those Indian summers. And being 0° outside is nothing to us, and it's kind of normal.

Kind of sad we still need to explain this after 35-40 years of climate change as a public policy

It’s snowing outside my window right now. So I dumped 30 gallons of bleach down the drain

Fun fact, for those that skipped that class in school, Earth's atmosphere contains Nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%) and everything else makes 1%. Of that 1%, CO2 makes for about 0.04%, and here is the twist, if CO2 level drops below 0.02%, all the plant life on Earth dies

What caused the ice from the ice age to melt?

The problem with this article is the argument works both ways. DW promotes every negative weather event as a consequence climate change, regardless of no scientific support. At the same time, it excuses every event that seems inconsistent with the climate change scare as something that does not contradict global warming. The truth is we must be responsible with the environment without been pushed by climate activists who exaggerate things. Scaremongering incorrectly attributing every flood, warm pattern, hurricane, etc. on climate change is counter productive too.

You mean lets move the goal posts to fit our flat earth view of climate change.

I remember when the entire Arctic ice cap would be melted by 1995.

When is too hot is because of the global warming
When it rains too much is because of the global warming
When is too dry is because of the global warming
When is too cold is because of the global warming
But nothing is sure
Next time i have a head ache i will know for sure is because of the global warming

In order to provide accuracy...scientifically required is the rise in volcanic activity..(not addressed) another fact...more people means more land development, which includes; destruction of hills which alter winds, more roads, (reflects heat) more buildings (glass reflecting) structures that reflect then trap heat, loss of trees and grasslands (STOPS water absorption, leading to more flooded areas) DO DIG DEEPER

What would disprove the theory? If your theory can't be disproved under any condition, that's a sign there is a problem with your theory.

Of course it doesn't. Unless we turn into a climate like the planet Mercury or Venus we're always going to have a winter and snow.

ya right! This from the people who said there wouldn't be any more snow! Sell your garbage back in the 80's.

I live in Luxembourg and this winter which is still going on has probably been the most contradictive. January was generally an abnormally cold month as for a few weeks we had temperatures not going above 0 Celsius during the day but around -7 Celsius during the night. Our coldest temperature has been -13 Celsius in January and -18 in the north, which is pretty cold below average. But then we had weeks where the snow and cold was cut off by anticyclones which made the tempertaures WAY higher than usual. If climate change were to make the cold spells even colder that would be great :)

I'm glad people are skeptical in the comments. It shows me there's no panic yet.

Fossil fuels are necessary to survive a cold wave...

Hotter weather in the southern hemisphere causes the oceans to release humidity, creating mist formations in certain parts of the atmosphere. When wind circulates these formations to the northern hemisphere's winter, they build into thicker clouds that block the sun further, which cools this region and creates heavier snowfall. Climate change and global warming will cause extreme weather patterns that translate into heavy rainfall and snow in indirect locations.
