This was a super helpful video! I've just gotten an XTouch and have it synced with my XR18, but haven't yet connected it up to Ableton. Just seeing that it's possible to click one button (SMPTE) and switch between the two modes makes me so happy. I need to finish setting this sucker up. Appreciate the inspiration!

Hey Jimmy this is so the answer. This is the next step for us . My wife an I are a duo also. She's an electric violinist and I'm a guitarist and vocalist. Thats awesome Victor! Im moving towards the xr18 so I can mix the individual ableton tracks. I’ll be using the digital mixer but I like this setup with the xtouch.

Hey! Great video. Made me think about the x-touch seriously. Wondering if you have ableton automation for volume, etc on tracks, would it show up on the xtouch as a fader move? (if you were in smpte mode)

Could it work with usb c from new macbook pro to both xtouch and xair18 using 2 usb outputs? I do run tracks in ableton, and I have been trying to figure out how to get to FOH with maybe a USB direct box, but this would allow xair18 to be the full mix, and output to FOH. Brilliant.

Great video.nit really helped me. I got a question about the channel selection arrows just to the left of the rotary wheel. If I press it to the right, does it go from tracks 1-8 to 9-17 or does it just move one track over? Ex. 1-8, click the right arrow and it becomes 2-9. It helps me for my Live act. I can't find info on it

One thing, it might be a lot of money. But compared to its competition as a midi controller it is on the cheaper side. And for controlling your x18 it has no competetion. In short it is great value, and that is also why you would buy again 😁👍

Love your video. I'm doing a very similar thing with my duo. My setup almost identical to yours with the exception of the X Touch. (that may be a nice additions to my rig) I use a McMillen Softstep switch between scenes so players can improve there solos and keep the song flexible.
I have been mixing my backing tracks with a midi controller and I'm finding that when I move a fader in Ableton its increasing or decreasing the gain staging on the xAir18. This causes problems with the monitor mix and in some extreme cases has caused me to overdrive the channel. So I'm re-thinking the way I rout my backing tracks out of Ableton. I'm thinking that I'll set the backing track faders to unity, and gain stage them in the xAir and do all the mixing from the xAir. Have you experimented with that?

Hello and thanks! I'm trying to do the same thing but with Logic, which I would imagine is basically the same.

I already have everything wired exactly as you do with the exception of CAT6. I'm using MC for the Mode and USB for the Interface. I can control Logic, but can't get anything to work with the XR/18. Any help would be appreciated.

Update, I am able to connect the x-touch with XR18 but I can't easily switch from Ethernet to USB. You must have programed the SMTE button somehow. if you can explain how to do that, i would be ohh so appreciative.
