Who should look after migrant workers affected by the pandemic? | Inside Story

Foreign workers are often the backbone of many societies.
They are doctors, nurses, shop assistants and managers.
Others take low-skilled work that citizens of wealthier nations won't do.
They have families that depend on the money they send back home.
But millions of migrant workers have seen their livelihoods evaporate as the coronavirus spreads.
Salaries are being cut, or staff fired as economies are disrupted by lockdowns.
The World Bank says global remittances will drop by 20 percent this year, the sharpest fall in recent history.
So will the crisis change the way wealthy countries use foreign labour?

All developing nations like India have to invest in building new cities, the problem is we are investing all our energies in developing already established cities hence the problem of migration, India requires atleast 20 new cities in next 5 years, that is the only solution to this problem

Majority of migrant workers in U.A.E living in bad condition no good health care system for workers.After corona virus things got worse for workers .Many companies does not give salary to workers .Long time ago uae is dream country for labours, workers and other skilled persons but now in uae nothing for poor .

Every body is loosing with this pandemic, but migrant workers, are suffering the worst, due to the fact that they get pay a very low wages. They are not able to invest nothing in the countries where they are living either. IS VERY SAD.!

Singapore ensured that all foreign workers in the domes are paid. Their medical bills are paid by the state. They are ever provided with meals and wifi during their isolation. The guest got that wrong.

Migrant workers in Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain often go unpaid for months and have no recourse with the ministry of labour just because.

Not just them, governments only helps their own so the none local businesses and expat investors and workers are also struggling. Not even getting intrest loans!! So I expect alot of businesses to close not just tourism/airlines

My Construction site in Bahrain Gulf - Is infected !!!! big business wont close site ....whilst the owners and managers are chilling at Villas covid free... poor migrant workers mostly all infected ...lucky they are fit young men with s strong immune system...but effectively the virus will spread as its happening effecting the less healthy locals that suffer lifestyle diseases like diabetes and heart disease...this needs in particular management from above
