The Ark of the Covenant was found by the late Ron Wyatt decades ago—NOT in the dome of the rock. He informed the Israeli authorities.
I have heard that the Temple Institute has an EXACT replica in their displays, and that when the Third Temple is finally built, the original will be brought and installed there.
Ron Wyatt also located the location of the original tabernacle.
