You're in the Hood, Kalihi stand up. Best Hawaiian Food right here in the heart of working class Honolulu. Much respect Mike.

Mike, aloha great review...just so you know that is not Himalayan salt, it is Hawaiian salt with Alae, it is a clay that turns the sea salt red. Hope you check out more of our local restaurants there in Hawaii...your too cute the way you was eating into the Kalua pig and Laulau, you made my mouth water. The chili water is from Hawaiian chili's, it is mixed with vinegar and I would mix with shoyu. It is best to eat the Chicken long rice with some of that chili water and rice. For the squid luau, eat with rice or mix everything ono ( yummy )

You know the food is good when Mike closes his eyes and sits back in his seat. every time.

Mike's face when he first tastes the poi...priceless!

Re: giving Mike a TV show...maybe, but they'd want him to do what they want...this is better because he's got total control of where and what.
Hope you had a great time in the islands, Mike--good to see you look so relaxed!

You make me miss living in Hawaii so bad. Kahlua Pork is so damn good that even Pizza joints put it on their pizza instead of just basic boring ham. I definitely need to take a trip back in the near future. It's been way too long (13 years now).

The thing about poi is that although it isn't spectacular by itself it enhances the flavor of everything else.

Himalayan salt? No, its Hawaiian rock salt with alaea which is sea salt mixed with iron oxide rich volcanic clay. That's what makes it the reddish color.

the more you mash the taro, the sweeter it becomes-somehow mashing it converts the starches into sugar

your food reviews make me so happy :) you're so positive, and even dishes you don't like you don't badmouth, and i appreciate that so much; it tells me you have respect for the food, what went in to making it, and the people who do like it
