Most people think that this song is about a person killing themself over a heartbreak but I actually think it might be about the loss of a lover. I think that the gunshot is the singers spouse killing themself or being killed and when he asks “how could Cupid be so cruel?” He’s really saying “why did I have to fall in love with a person that would die?” And he thinks Cupid is evil for making people fall in love just for it to be taken away.
