Lebanese guy here: I suggest rolling your shawarma with some garlic sauce and pickles and optionally you can add some thinly sliced onions on which you sprinkle some sumak. Eat the salad on the side. A simple shawarma sandwich is more enjoyable than one filled with a lot of leafy green. And Dimitra's garlic sauce is awesome because as she said that store bought ones do leave you with a yucky feeling. Gonna be making that from now on.

Used to be a Lebanese restaurant nearby and I often got their chicken shawarma as it was delicious. .Although they went out of business the flavor of that dish has stuck with me. Thank you Dimitra for this delightful recipe. I am in the process of marinating the chicken for tonight. Can't wait to cook it and eat it. I live in New Hampshire and adding an international flavored meal is like traveling to far off lands. With Dimitra as my guide I can't go wrong.

Made this recipe today exactly as you described, including the sauce. My family loved it. My kids said it was "the best shawarma of their life". The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the sauce was a revelation. I did not know a few simple ingredients could taste so perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this great recipe in a perfect length and easy to follow video.

I made this last night and it was amazing. I added an extra piece of garlic which was perfect. Being raised in the middle East, shawarma was always my favorite. Didnt think I could find a good and easy at home recipe so thank you thank you thank you!

I made this last night for my husband and I ....5 times while he was eating in the other room I heard him say "thid is good." Then I tried and oh my delicious!!!! Loved it!!! Thanks for sharing

Hi Dimitra, I just made the Shwarma and it’s sitting on stove for supper. I like yours the best for making it at home. I did put into oven on broil and it came out so juicy i kid you not, it’s juicier than when I barbecue the chicken breast. The only thing I didn’t have is sumac, I researched it and you can use lemon instead. I had all the spices on hand. The onions were tasty as well. The garlic sauce I made it with sour cream cause didn’t have yogurt. I have to go shopping soon. Mayonnaise no one likes it in my household. My grown children are very picky since kids and don’t like thighs or legs from chicken only light meat not dark. You are correct use one garlic clove for garlic dip. I’m just making fresh pita bread now cause I love making bread and yeast. My mom never made bread but my husband taught me bread making anything with heat I love doing. Thank you so much for sharing and this is a healthy version of shwarma. Bless 🙏❤️

I made this tonight. It came out fantastic. The Shawarma, and the sauce, were terrific. I was a little concerned with the amount of cumin in the recipe. But the other spices balanced the mix out. The amount of salt was perfect too. It's best to have less than more...The entire recipe was flawless. And it came out great. Thank you, thank you!!!
There's a restaurant here, Pasha, and they serve Shawarma. But to suit the population living here it is pretty bland. It has been my experience for the last 7 years that Texans have no taste. This recipe was excellent, and I have plenty of leftovers... :-)

I used your recipe but I added 1/2 cup of homemade butter milk also, I didn't have thighs so I used bone in chicken breast, marinated overnight and grilled it for one hour. ( they were big pieces). It turned out as you said, very delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. God bless you. 💖

I just marinated the chicken and put it in the fridge. I didn’t have boneless, so I used leg quarters. I’ll probably cook it and shred it. I hope it works out! Going to make it tomorrow night.

Hi Dimitra I've made your recipe at least half a dozen times since watching your video and it absolutely rocks. My daughter loves it too. . She said it's way better than take out. I've grilled the chicken on the BBQ and it came out awesome. Made the garlic sauce it was soooo good. Here in T.O. our shawarma places use garlic sauce, tahini sauce and hot sauce. Thanks so much for a great recipe. I used all the spices u listed except for cardamom. Efharisto💖👍

Just wanted to say thanks for this! I cook chicken thighs all the time and the broiler w rack thing was an entirely new technique for me that turned out incredible results—like grilling over a flame, but in midwinter and with minimal mess and smoke. Really really impressive, this was a great meal and great recipe!

This was dinner tonight. It was delicious. Being in the southwest USA I am using a tortilla in place of pita. Works nicely.

That is a potent spice blend, love it! So right about the sauce, yogurt and lemon juice really freshen it up and make it much more palatable.
But, wouldn't put it in someone's work/school day lunch sandwich!
Have you ever tried making a mini rotisserie for a shoarma / gyro to bake in the oven?

Just made this!

The sauce is 5/5 light and refreshing didn’t even need any salt.

The chicken recipe is 4/5! I expected a bit more of a kick of flavor after marinating over night but it was still tangy and very juicy. Will def be using the oven rack/broil method again but I would recommend putting all onions in the bottom of the pan to cook instead of on the chicken as mine quickly blackened to a crisp in the first 4-5 min of cooking. Great recipe otherwise. Thanks!

i grew up in saudi arabia and our compound had the best chicken shawarma. thank you Dimitra for making this video it taste just like i'm back in the middle east. i highly suggest using a rotating air fryer if you have one
