There was a comic from the 70s that showed Batman talking to Gordon in his office. As usual Gordon turns to look at Batman, only to find an open window.
But as Gordon leaves the office. Batman comes out from behind the coat stand. Because Gordon would have seen him leave if he tried to go out the window. So he only made him think he left.

Fun fact. it is also entirely possible to do this in reverse, just appearing out of nowhere when someone thinks they are alone. I have a really bad habbit of doing it completely unintentionally.

Commissioner Gordon would lose all respect for Batman if he found him in the corner wearing a pith helmet.

The idea that Batman hides until no one is around anymore so he can get away without anyone seeing him is beyond humorous to me

Yea I guess it would be pretty weird if we all just hid in the middle of

I think niko is forgetting a fundamental fact of the whole “why don’t they search for him...” thing... namely, because everyone is intimidated by him. They’re all a little afraid of him and they don’t search for him cause they’re surprised his gone, but also relieved that he’s gone.

Well, in most situations where Batman "vanishes", it's an outdoor scene, with clear exit routes. Batman just picks the right moment and most of the "trick" is just being quiet. There's less hiding than just leaving rudely.

Batman isn't actually moving. He has mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still, that he becomes invisible to the eye.

Batman has the added benefit of being able to throw himself off the nearest ledge, or grapple away, not just hide round the corner like Jake has to. The hardest part to believe, for me, is Batman doing it silently.

I love how Niko didn't expect it to work, but he's almost giddy with laughter when it does work, almost like he's actually geeking out inside.

I've never believed that Batman is just hiding, I think he is completely leaving in such a stealthy or unexpected way (jumping off roofs, using his gadgets) that the person didn't notice. I also enjoy believing he isn't doing it to be dramatic, he is just done with the convo and leaves immediately while the other person is still catching up.

"They're just frustrated with you, now." -- and indeed, in a lot of instances of Batman just vanishing, Gordon or whoever is often just really frustrated afterwards.

But the one I like most... Is when Batman does it to Superman. Suggesting that Batman doesn't even make a noise when he vanishes.

One trope that I would love to see tested is the horror trope where people go towards weird sounds in the dark. Would be funny to see people from the office, totally oblivious of any shenanigans, hear something when they come to work and see if they'll go investigate. Could also unscrew the lightbulbs so they are there but won't turn on for added scare factor.

Every time the beat drops and the camera slowly zooms in on the empty background LOL

Part of why it works for Batman, is that the people he's talking to are also busy. Like he is talking to them and then gives them information(sometimes physical) and they are now thinking on the info, then when he's gone, they may do a quick look around, but they also have just been given new information on their current thing and the pressure of getting back to that with all this new info kind of pushes them harder than wanting to keep looking around.

The thing about this "trick" is that, every move Batman makes is calculated. If he meets you at a specific spot, you can be sure that he has several exit routes planned. He can "disappear" not because he's a ninja, but because he specifically chose a spot where he can do exactly that, if the need arises. So yes, Batman is just that good.

Imagine if instead of saying "I hate when he does that" Gordon just pointedly put his hands on his hips and said "I hate when you do this". And then just waited.

The storge room was actually a better disappearing act. In addition to the brilliant hiding place in plain site, there weren't many exits, just one. In the spooky hallway there were a lot of easy ways do leave in half a second, so it that's why those reactions weren't quite as good.
