✰ About Me ✰
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about disability, neurodiversity and what its like living with Tourette's Syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Orthostatic Hypotension. Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition causing involuntary movements called tics.
I use my social media (TikTok, YouTube and Instagram) to advocate and raise awareness for my conditions and show what it is like living with a disability as a neurodivergent person.
I am also autistic and share my sensory struggles along with my experiences with mental health disorders.
I show what its like having a disability and the accomodations I have to help my daily life. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user showing my life using mobility aids and how chronic illness symptoms change from day to day!
I am also a musician with a popular song called "She's Mine" available on all streaming services - I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered all my songs myself! I am also an artist and a writer. I love reading and I'm currently writing a novel and a book about my life!

You know, I've wondered this about my tics while I sleep. Usually when I'm calm and tired, I dont tic as much, but I have ticced in my dreams, so maybe I do in real life as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was scared too but then I just went for it and it was super funny, I didn't realize I talked in other languages while sleeping until I did it 😂

Speaking as someone who has struggled with a pretty serious case of Tourette's for over 40 years (broken & torn just about every bone and tendon in my body) every case is uniquely different and I can say with absolute certainty that I don't tick in my sleep in fact when the ticks get really bad because of a bad cold or serious stress, the only absolute Blissful moments of my day are those 60 seconds to a minute when I first wake up & open my eyes, after that it's like a slow moving train gaining to full speed!

For anybody still wondering, they go away in *deep* sleep, not light sleep but *deep* sleep

I talk in my sleep...tried those apps before it was hilarious. ADHD brain never shuts up 😂

If stress increases tics, I wonder if setting up something to monitor sleep tics could increase your physical tension or emotional stress, and artificially cause tics that might not have happened otherwise.

I've full on slammed my head into a solid concrete wall just at the point of waking up lol.

I tic if I’m in a light sleep but in heavy sleep I don’t tic at all, literally the only time I’m not ticcing 😅

As a person with tics I used to sleep with my mom when my dad would work night shifts. My mom did tell me not too long ago that I did have tics when I was asleep. She said it was basically the same as when I was awake.

I have restless leg syndrome, the only way I found out is because my partner mentioned that I do it in my sleep. Always worth asking someone if you do weird shit in your sleep 😂
There are other symptoms but they cross over with other diseases I have, tbh I thought everyone shook their legs and had constant noise in their head, but no it's ADHD after all haha

idk all the neuroscience behind tics but i imagine the paralysis in REM probably means you don't get tics either? the other phases of sleep tho, you theoretically could

Thats actually Interesting 🤔 if ppl sleep talk sometimes then to me it makes sense to have tics while sleeping but then again everyone is different bc me sister doesn’t sleep talk but i do…

Idk, I’ve wondered because sometimes when I’m falling asleep I’ll get a tic than brings me fully back to reality, but it’s kinda rare.

My best guess is since people without a diagnosis like this or similar can talk in their sleep or sleep walk, etc. I'd find it possible this to could happen while your sleeping. That's just my guess could be wrong or maybe not. Just tossing out my hypothesis.

Don’t push yourself to do what everyone wants you to do. Be yourself and there is no one as special as you, be kind to yourself.

anecdotal answer: my best friend as a kid used to say "i could tell you were *actually* asleep [instead of faking it or 'resting my eyes'] because you weren't ticcing :3" and idk why but that always pissed me off. i never liked people drawing attention to it because 99% of the time it was negative and they were making fun of me.
(i don't tic anymore - usually. it was worse as a kid, in my case.)
(also anecdotal: smoking weed has always made my tourettes fade into the background and i really think that has a lot to do with how [not why] i """grew out of it""" [heavy air-quotes because it was an entire mental process that won't work for everybody])

If you're uncomfortable then don't do it - especially just for other people. Only do things for yourself ( or maybe doctors too if they can convincingly justify it)
