Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition and disability which causes involuntary movements called tics. I use my platforms on social media such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram to advocate and raise awareness for the condition and show what it is like living with a disability as a teen in school.
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about tics, tic disorders and what its like to be a teen living with Tourette's syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and a seizure disorder (NEAD/NES).
I show what its like having tics and Tourettes in class and in school and college, vlog, and I also bake, do other challenges and answer all your questions in Q and A videos.
I am also an ambulatory wheelchair user so I show what life looks like using various mobility aids and how needs change from day to day!
I am also a musician! My newest release is my first single (original song) called "She's Mine" which is now available on all streaming services - I sing and play piano, guitar, ukulele and I write, produce, mix and master all my own songs and content myself!

Love the way you explain that. It's perfect and a way that everyone can understand:) I have tics that only show up when I get high anxiety or if I'm bored or tired but they aren't that noticeable at all. Eventhough tics are so well known, people still don't understand it

thank you so much for raising awareness for this!! i have tics, possibly Tourette's not sure, and being able to come on here and learn more is just amazing! and showing others that we're not 'freaks' like some say. my own dad doesn't think i have tics, even tho im diagnosed by a doctor. he thinks im doing it for attention, fun or just laughs and shit. im not, most of them hurt and its not funny. thank you for showing me that i dont have to be ashamed of my tics, and that im not alone! ily <3

I dont have Tourette’s but I get tics because of OCD and anxiety. People think I’m faking it because I don’t have Tourette’s

Whenever my family tells me to stop, the movement only become more pronounced. The most irritating ones are when my head tilts to the side or my body jumps slightly or I make sounds that some others find bothering. It's incredibly frustrating.

The signal you get when you have a tic, is the same type of response everyone gets when you burn yourself and flinch, its involuntary.

The only difference is that the signal from a tic doesn't stop at the spinal chord, so it has access to the brain (thats why tics can be verbal, and other more complex responses)

This is the best explanation I've ever heard. It makes so much sense with what I've read about my dyslexia which is also one of the neurodivergent thingys. The wiring in our brain is literally different making some things work better and some things worse or just different.

I have epilepsy and its almost the same. Sometimes some parts of my body tremble for a few seconds and I cant control that. But no big seizures, only short 1sec muscle trembles. And also sometimes I have some seizures where my mind is blocked for a few minutes where I suddenly cant remember easy things. And after all the memories come back. So its not great but I live with it.

That was a great way of explaining that! I have a tic disorder and I can’t control my vocal tic( which is the only one I have because it is a disorder not Tourette’s syndrome) which means I have to test in other rooms, distract people, and just flat out annoy them.😕Thank you for being open about it! It makes me so much more confident!

I think the reason TS happened with my two youngest (25 &27y.o.) was perhaps due to the anti-nausea, Maxolon, that was given to me during pregnancy. That particular anti-nausea was given to me on and off, for 30 years for migraine & during my last 2 pregnancies.

4 years ago, maxalon then gave me instant movement disorder after a 20 milligram injection..
Seemingly, 17 years after my children have Tourette's, I have it also..🤔

I went to see neurologist who explained that anti-nausea medication, can have the same Pyramidal side effects, as antidepressants😮 as far as movement disorders go.

He's suspecting that the anti-nausea during developmental stages, may have contributed to our children Tourettes. It's considered as environmental factors.

I did not have medication during my first two pregnancies. We are trying to peace this together but as you know, answers never come overnight.😢

Wondering weather your mum was given any type of anti-anxiety or anti-nausea, antibiotics during pregnancy with you..?

Did you know there are government studies you can look up? this is how my children and I now and kno, what medications to be very careful of now. From now on we look up, can blah blah blah contribute to movement disorders?🤔🧐

Since learning this, we are under the impression that no medication is safe during pregnancy. Especially ones that work on the serotonin and D2 receptors..

Thank you so much for creating awareness surrounding this condition
