I did well on keto about 10 years ago. But i will say since i strated carnivore, it has been way easier. I think it is simple and i dont have to think about trying to stay below a carb number. It also keeps out the temptation for recreation "Keto" foods which can give me cravings. I don't like veggies anyway. I love steak!

As an insider, I wholeheartedly agree with your insight about addiction. I’ve worked for many companies to help design foods primarily for flavor, stimulation and sensory appeal: Frito Lay, McDonalds, TGI Fridays, Bimbo Bakeries. As a result, millions of people have become addicted to highly processed, carbohydrate laden foods — including me. Sadly, the nutritional labels by themselves do not provide illumination about making wise food choices. I ballooned to 296 pounds due to eating the foods I helped to develop. In the past 18 months, I have been on a medically supervised ketogenic regimen. I stopped buying the foods that were highly processed and switched to high protein, good fats and minimally processed foods. I am a big fan of sardines…as well as salmon, beef, chicken, flax, chia seeds, whole fat dairy, eggs, pecans, berries, macadamias, dark leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables. As a result, I’ve lost 80 pounds, reversed pre-diabetes (hbA1c from 6.3 to 5.4), lowered my blood pressure (116/72), lowered my triglycerides, lowered my cholesterol (145) while raising my HDL (70), and lowered my fasting insulin to 11 UIU/ML. My journey isn’t over. But I do not have food cravings. I am fat adapted. I used to crave potato chips, cookies, ice cream and fast food galore. I have zero appetite for these now. I learned that you can’t out exercise a bad diet. You can’t out medicate a bad diet. And weight loss surgeries can’t protect you from poor food and beverage choices. My relationship with food has evolved and continues to do so.

I eat one meal per day, every 23 hours I eat in a one hour window. Either ribs, steak, chicken thighs, ground beef, eggs with cheese. I love the simplicity of this diet and general well being. Blood pressure is normal, I don’t snore anymore, I don’t have acid reflux, I’m more energized at work and I sleep better.

I did keto for 2 months and kept feeling worse by the day. I couldn’t move. I was so scared. Thank you to the guy who replied to my desperate cry for help in a comment on a keto video. He mentioned carnivore. One week on carnivore, I felt amazing! Dude, you’ll probably never see this comment, but you’re my hero. ❤

Food addiction is REAL. My metabolism was so messed up it took two full months to become fat adapted. It is great to be free from those cravings and also fit in my old jeans.

Hi, I’m Paul & I’m a food / sugar / carb-aholic.
It always seems like you’re talking directly to me. 10 years into this keto/carnivore/paleo journey I have to say that I can’t stop obsessing about food. It has to stay at the forefront of my mind all the time. As soon as I let my guard down my demons take the wheel & I’m off the rails and I start thickening around the waist & am able to clear rooms with my emissions. I’ve had other substance addicts in my life & I have to treat problem foods like a confirmed alcoholic treats “just one beer”.
One day at a time.

Dr. Boz, I just finished the 72-hour sardine fast. It was quite easy. I loved knowing exactly what I was eating for the day. No meal prep, no cooking. A few takeaways, I like the bones but not the skin, skinless are definitely less stinky, satiety was impressive (4 cans a day), ketone 2.2 at 72 hours. The most impressive was climbing the stairs this morning. Right up the middle carrying laundry. Not grasping the rail for support. Anti inflammatory benefits were amazing. Thanks, Dr. Boz. You're the best.

I started on keto & only lost 5 lbs. Then I got stuck. Went to ketovore and stopped eating fruit and all but the lowest carb veggies. That made the difference! The food cravings stopped and I was no longer a slave to my cravings. This is NOT one size fits all. Some people have to keep cutting carbs lower and lower to achieve success. Others are fine on a less restrictive way of eating. Keep trying until YOU find what works for you. The key is to learn from the 'mistakes' and to keep searching for what works for you.

Thank you for addressing the food addiction side of things. Not many people mention that but the struggle is real!

I love your focus on addiction. As a former addict, food was my first addiction to make uncomfortable feelings go away. Your focus on why you you are addicted is spot on and I can find no other MD making room for the psychological reasons of food addiction.

Great talk! I have reversed T2Diabetes with Keto and most days now I eat Carnivore. At age 57 though I realize I need to focus on food addiction. I struggle with getting the rest of the weight off because I haven't dealt with food addiction. I have used food as emotional support my whole life. (Eat when happy, sad, lonely... for any and every emotion!) You can still overeat even on keto or carnivore. I believe I'm on the right path with food choices but am now focused on how much food I eat, when I eat, why I eat - I'm back to checking my blood glucose levels (even though I'm off meds and my numbers are normal) to see what's going on in my body. I'm also checking my ketones. I'm focusing more on intermittent fasting as well. I'm feeling better and have broken through a 6 month weight loss stall. I'm focused on seeing food as fuel and learning food is not a 'friend' to comfort me. Thanks for the timely reminder!

After nearly 3 years keto I gave carnivore a try for its simplicity of carb tracking. Frankly, I found it to be too restrictive, a cheerless and boring diet for me. So I stopped and still follow keto well. Keto & carnivore are dietary lifestyles, not religions. So if you're doing keto, do it the best you can & don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good.

I found your channel two weeks ago. I was told I’m pre diabetic and I do NOT ever want to take insulin or Metformin. I watched everything I could on your channel and was hooked. I started keto last week and have not cheated! Today, 7 days later, I’m down 11 lbs and my ketones this morning were the highest they’ve been so far at 1.6. I only measure in the morning. I’m so excited after being obese for 2 decades. I finally feel great. I’m no longer fighting fatigue all day and dealing with mental fog. My mind and skin are clear and people are noticing. No turning back now. Thank you Dr Boz! You have a new follower that will not quit. Thanks for so much good teaching. Oh yeah, and for the first time ever, my blood sugar is at 90. I’m so used to 110-120 that I was shocked how effective this way of life is. 😊

Carnivore is far easier to me. When I was on keto I would get hangry type hunger. it was not good for me. I been on carnivore since Christmas eve 2023. I was over 427.lbs in the middle of the summer last year. My scale at home would not weigh me when I started carnivore. I had to buy a seat belt extender so I could drive properly. I was far worse by Christmas time when I started carnivore, and all my joints were hurting just to stand up. With carnivore I have no cravings at all, and all my joints don't hurt anymore except my right knee at times. I'm dropping about 2 to 2.5 .lbs. a week. I weighed 367 today. I eat far less because I get full faster. the fat shuts my hunger feeling off! Thanks to all of DR. Ken Barrys videos I have watched. I hope this helps someone else and gives them hope.

I just started watching your videos, for about 3 weeks now. What an education I’m getting. Today my Mojo GK-I monitor is being delivered and now I can record what is actually going on inside me. Even without the monitor, I feel different and have gone from 147 to 142 by doing the very basic. I feel that this is absolutely for me. Thank you for sharing such valuable insights as well as your time. New to Keto ☺️

As kids we were told if we ate our meals, we’d be rewarded with a pudding/sweet. And there lies the problem! Early on in life we associated sugar with reward.

Carnivore is my thing baby… I am a truck driver and the absolute simplicity of it is mind blowing to me. Trying to juggle vegetables has been a nightmare, so I switched to carnivore and I almost feel guilty how easy it is. Furthermore, a great deal of additional inflammation “lessened” with the switch. So yeah. All I need is a freezer / fridge and an instant pot and I’m set.
