Formic Pro Mite Treatment

Hey all,

Well with the upsetting results from the OAV treatments, I decided to use Formic Pro as a next step for treating against Mites. It has been 10 days since the last OAV treatment, so safe to put the Formic Pro pads on. I have used Formic Pro in the past as a Mite Treatment.

When you use Formic Pro:
1: RESEARCH THE PRODUCT AND HOW TO USE. There are excellent videos from the manufacturer.
2: Proper ventilation.
3: Protect yourself.
4: No Entrance Reducers.

My experience has been that two strips per hive at the same time kills way too many bees, causes queen death or supercedure. I live in Northern Michigan and have followed the directions (especially the temp requirements). I now only use one strip per hive at one time. Pain in the buttocks, but doesn’t kill the bees or the queen. I check for mites when done and follow up with oxalic acid vapor as needed.

Running 2 deep hives with lower AND upper entrances. I understand that bottom entrance needs to be fully open. What about the upper entrance? Closed or open? Thanks

Can you feed the bees while you treat with the FP

Hope the Formic pro works to battle the mites. So sensitive to temperature.

I treated my hive with Formic Pro about 2 hrs ago. I just checked the hive. Normally there are bees going in and out of the hive. I just checked it and only saw a couple going in and out. Normally there are groups of bees outside the entrance and there are none. Should I be concerned?

What do you think of another treatment after 30 days? What do you think of those plastic hive bodies?

That happened with one of my colonies. They had 8 mites and went up to 13 after I treated. However, the rest of my hives were at 1 or zero mites... I added apivar strips to the bad colony and am putting them through another round of OAV, then we will do another count. Ugh! I hate mites!

Now I'm rethinking my game plan with OAV but I have no money for anything else😰

Strange, I posted a comment but it appears to be removed.

I didn’t have any mites “zero” when I did my shakes 😂 but I’ve had beetle problems lately
