This Is How I FIXED MY SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL FOR GOOD!!

In this video I show how I was able to fix my spongy brake pedal on my 1995 GMC Suburban K1500 OBS GMT400. Since I purchased this truck the brakes have always been spongy. I've changed the brakes twice before which did improve the braking performance but it never improved the brake pedal sponginess. This time I decided rather than just replacing the pads and rotors I was going to replace everything and do a full disc brake system restoration. It was a success.

You did this all as a blind man!? That’s impressive!

Dude, , , I just put new rotors on and they were spongy as hell. I have done brakes before but I forgot about lubing those 2 pins. I just took them off and lubed the hell out of them and my new brakes FEEL like new now. NO MORE SPONGINESS AT ALL.
Thank you for posting. I had a Cavalier years ago and probably could've done it for that too but I didn't even know it was important back then. I LOVE my new brakes now just as much as your wife enjoys hers. Thank you for sharing your video!

Jimmy, you are a God sent! I've been having the same exact problem with my 2017 Ford expedition. After replacing a master cylinder, brake booster, abs module, brake pads, rotors, speed sensors and all 4 hubs, your solution is the most logical. It never dawned on me to replace the caliper, hardware (slide pins) and flex hoses but it makes sense. Ford couldn't even figure out what was causing the spongy brake pedal. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your video👍👍👍👍👍

I've seen alot of people talk about upgrading the master cylinder. Glad to finally see a video on the more logical fix. Keep up the good work. I have a 95 Tahoe and love these videos.

Wow Jimmy ! You know it's Great when your Wife says it feels like it's Brand New. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad your Brakes are good to go again. The Complete Brake Fluid system flush is very important. Thank you. Bill

As always, great video Jimmy! I think the most important part that you replaced was your lines! Those rubber hoses after so many years when you put pressure to them they actually expand so that expansion causes you to have that spongy feel because of the give therefore that was probably the biggest key to getting rid of the spongy feel. I’ve done many that way and it seems to be what the common denominator is in between replacing all those parts together or individually. Thanks for the videos!

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar for posting these gmt400 tutorials. I watch your vids every night while doing elliptical. My bride and fil complain of my 96 burbs “spongy brakes”, so this is next on the list. I owe you a drink if you are ever near Buford, GA. Peace! GB

I had the same issue with my 2005 F150. I changed the lines with steel braided and it took out all of the sponge. I had them all custom made and they were cheaper then the OEM rubber lines. Glad you got your system wife approved though. More importantly, safer for the family.

Spongy brake pedal could be most likely air bubbles in the brake lines. Bleeding the air bubbles out is more easier than replace the brake pads system.

The flex lines more than likely fixed the spongy feeling. Over time the lines break down. If you could see lines when pressing brake pedal they actually expand in diameter, thus creating spongy feeling. Good work Jimmy.

Simple but effective... I never gave the hoses a thought. I think you've nailed it.

That’s what my 95 suburban does too, new master and new brakes as well and I don’t think the truck could stop in an emergency. Thanks for uploading!

Glad you got it. Replacing the Power Brake Booster Check Valve in my 95 Caprice made a huge difference with my brakes. It's not a part I commonly hear mentioned but a failing one can cause all sorts of braking issues including spongy brakes.

The first step should have been to flush the brake fluid.

Jimmy, great points. Like you said greasing those bushings and slide pins and then flushing the old fluid is key to making sure that brake performance is top notch. It's been the same kind of issues experienced in the older square body trucks, especially the 4 x 4 trucks. many people thought they could always just get away with swapping out pads or just surfacing the rotors and going with new pads and then couldn't understand why one brake would drag or have some issue that was always derived from moisture causing the brake fluid to gel and swell or the ungreased pins getting locked and binding up.

Great job, almost every car that i have done brakes on i have flushed the brake system to have new fluid in the brake system it makes a world of difference.
