I second all the earlier comments, excellent video.
One thing that you should probably have emphasised is that (AFAIK) the format of the backed-up files does not correspond 1:1 to that on the Synology. That is, if you backup to a local USB drive, and try to directly read the USB contents by attaching the drive to a PC, you cannot directly read the backed-up file contents. In other word, to restore, you always have to use Hyper Backup to restore the files. It also means that you cannot use Hyper Backup to migrate the files to another non-Synology NAS.

Useful tutorial thank you, I'm struggling to understand the nuance of the rotation settings especially the custom retention settings & their implications on storage requirements. More detail on this would be great! Though I have found simply experimenting with the Custom Retention settings, including the Max Number of Kept Versions and flipping between the Month/Year timescale on the visualisation, is really useful for helping to understand it

Great video and very informative as always! What would you recommend as a backup strategy for the docker containers? Losing them would be a nightmare and being able to restore them fully and quickly is a must. Thanks for your insights on this.

Excellent Video. I want to back up all my photos including tags, albums and face recognition should my NAS go down. If I use Hyper Back up and restore to new drives on another NAS will all of the photos, tags, face recognitions and albums be restored? Are there specific settings I need to use for this?

I had recently factory reset my synology nas. I would like to restore from google drive but I'm not sure what to do during setup, do I select "download remote changes only" or "bidirectional, " I am terrified of selecting bidirectional. Would that sync my empty drives (since it was factory reset) to google drive, thereby wiping my data?

Great video, thanks for sharing. I can't progress with the selective restore, as I don't have the Hyper Backup Explorer option next to my Backup Now button. I only have a pull-down to edit & delete. I wonder if you know what I don't have these options? My last full backup (this a.m.) was successful.

Great video. The only thing I miss here is how to restore data from an external NAS after you had a fire for example, and you lost your NAS where you made your backups from. How do you access and restore the data from the external NAS then?

great vid, I was just looking for such coverage recently :D
one question - what happens if the target backup device (external HDD, another NAS etc...) available capacity is lower than needed?
I understand there is no easy way to see/calculate storage needs for "compressed" backups with rotations (to choose appropriate device capacity), as it would by no means match the source folder/share size?

Good video as always. Just what i needed. I wonder if you could make a video on how to automatically to renew certificates with Synology in combination with Cloudflare. I don't know if you know the problem with cloudflare but if you use cloudflare it is difficult to renew letsencrypt certificates if you use the built in Nginx tool of your Synology NAS.
