♦ Hey everyone! In today's video I walk you through how to setup Hyper Backup on your Synology NAS. I setup a local backup in this video but the general process and the tips I share is pretty similar if you're backing up to AWS, OneDrive or another online service. I will be doing videos on some of these specific services in the future too, so if you have a particular request leave that in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this haven't had time to run through tutorials and have been configuring this for our office for a few years. Learned a bit here. Great point on sync btw

Nice explanation, the only thing is missed is how to retrieve the backup back to the NAS.

Is this a good way to migrate shared folders from one NAS to another on the same network? If I have a large shared folder on one NAS (10TB) and want to safely move it to another NAS and ensure all data made it safely before purging the old directory, is this the way to go?

How does one learn how to use these synology programs? There are absolutely no directions anywhere.
What do you suggest that I use to back up two large files containing data on a windows computer, 100 miles from my home NAS?

Dropbox has snapshot history though, so even if your encrypted files were uploaded to dropbox, you could just retrieve the previous day's versions right?

I have a question on restoring data to the Synology. So I see you set up a daily backup but now you have a problem and you need to restore ALL the data back to Volume 1. I know the first backup will be the most complete but how do you restore EVERYTHING so your Volume 1 is most complete, do you need to go back and find the first backup file and restore every backup from their to the present? Sounds like a lot of work so there must be something so you can quickly and easily restore your whole Volume 1 drive. I hope this makes sense>

Hello, I made a hyper backup setup on a external hard drive,
but when I take a look on the external hard drive I have files named .lock .index and .bucket
What are the benefit of backuping with such files ? I mean the space used is the same and it makes the files not readable anymore.
Is this an encryption method for more security ? Thanks

How do you create a shared folder to a usb drive so my backup can run to the usb drive?

I need to backup my synology nas. Can I connect 3 USB external drives and use Hyper Backup to split the data to backup the entire Volume to the 3 external drives? I want to upgrade the drives in my nas to larger drives, and set up the new drives as btrfs file system. My plan if possible is to back up the entire volume, replace the drives and restore from hyper backup.

Thanks for the useful video. I need to start using this backup process to an external USB from my 2 bay NAS. Do I assume it will just “copy” the data once, then just the change in data there after? If I edit a document or manipulate a photo, does it but that whole file on the next backup? Will I be able to look on the drive and just access both the new and older versions of the file, or is it a funny format which would then have to be restored using the software?

Good video. How do you remove a backup task from Hyper Backup? Once it has been created and not needed any more I can find no way of deleting it.

Hi, many thanks for the video, it's very interesting.
How does hyper backup work to external USB drives in a way that allows for rotation of the devices?
I have found that if I configure the backup for an attached USB drive, e.g.: "USB Monday", then it will fail if that drive is removed after backup and replaced with another identical device "USB Tuesday"
Is there a way to have one backup job write to different devices on each day; to allow for daily rotation?

block level multi version backup of hyper backup is SOOOO good. Is there any other backup software that uses this same principal? it saves so much space.

Hi. In this video are you backing up to a usb drive or a second nas? I am trying to do it with a usb drive, and the usb drive is part of volume 1. I can't create a second volume for my usb drive.

Our Synology is up and running. You mentioned in your video that creating another volume for the HyperBackup functionality, however, I have 5 drives with 7tb each = 32tb (12 bays using only 5) available to handle all of this and some other shares. My question to you: Can I just set up another shared folder within the same volume to another backup against the other shares for my HyperBackup config? I know you mention this in the video, but since I have many drives and the volume is already set up with few shares... your thoughts?
