It's only happened to me twice, but man... you don't forget it.

I've only experienced sleep paralysis when I was very sleep deprived. So, I've actually come to expect it when I know I haven't slept well the night before or past few nights. And I never see any monsters either. I often just experience the symptoms. To counteract it, I start wiggling my toes until I can move my legs and then my upper body. Works every time. Makes the experience far less stressful.

Happened to me once in my 20s. I was under a lot of stress and dealing with panic disorder that was not controlled. It was the craziest hallucination and feeling I've ever experienced. Feeling trapped and seeing a shadow on top of you isn't fun. I knew what it was, so it wasn't concerning. The part I hated was going to sleep thinking if it would happen again.

the scariest part while u r experiencing sleep paralysis is that if u try to move it feels like ur soul is getting out of your body ... who's with me ?

Happened to me a lot when I was a teen in college. No vision of monster, aliens or old hags around me, just feeling painfuly awake, aware that I didn't feel myself breathing and I was paralized. Strangely, just the fear made me hyperventilate. I couldn't feel it but I could hear it, and I woke up a short while later. Happened to me the most when I was really tired and a few times a night.

About 20 years ago, I would have sleep paralysis every night for several months. I would feel it coming on as I drifted off to sleep. It was horrible! I don't remember seeing anything evil but the sense of fear was unreal. I would try to get my husband to wake me up (in my "dream" ) yet to him I was laying there sound asleep. But to me, I'm fighting to move and fight trying to wake up yet in reality I wasn't moving an inch. It was the worst!! When I finally did wake up I would be.so relieved but afraid to try to go back to sleep because I was afraid it would happen again. Most of the time it did. It was horrifying and I am so glad they finally stopped.

This happened to me and I will never forget. Eyes open in bed, frozen in place with a horrifying alien over me, and another smaller less scary one behind him. It was very weird. They moved out of my room and I eventually was able to move again.

It’s happened once to me. Exactly like you described. I awoke to something on my chest holding me down and I was completely paralyzed. I tried to scream and nothing was coming out. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. When I came to I immediately started bawling. It happened around 10 years ago and I’ve never forgotten that feeling. Completely traumatizing!

Utterly the most terrifying thing I ever have experienced while I sleep. Still occurs to this day. It’s truly a horrifying, unforgettable nightmare. 😢

This used to happen to me all the time at my parents’ house. Sometimes, I would wake up and see the dark figure and realize that I was still asleep. The only thing that would help was praying during my episodes. When I moved out, I had my house blessed. Now I have sleep paralysis about once or twice a year. I haven’t seen the figure for 5 years.

I lived with sleep paralysis for decades, since I was about 10 y.o until my late 40s

It went from a nightly occurrence to few episodes every now and then

It was horrible, but you get used to it and learn to relax and let your body to “wake up”

This was a nightly occurrence for me in my early 20s. I suffered from very bad panic disorder and after the horror of panic attacks all day, this would happen at night time, multiple times a night.

It finally got under control taking anti anxiety meds after a year of it going unchecked.

The experiences, out of body, and sometimes hallucinogenic were crazy. I used to feel myself hit the cold floor, run down the hallway and then get zoomed back only to realize it was all sleep paralysis.

Now I am 41, and I’m off all medications and learned how to deal with anxiety. It rarely happens but now if it does it is almost a welcome experience!

I believe everything you said is pretty much true, this has happened to me many times, but one of the episodes I had, while in the military, never in a million years you couldn't convince me wasn't real because I was just laying down and within a minute of me laying down, with me being wide awake, 2 beings attacked me. One held me down and the other grabbed my arm, which I can still feel it today. This was no sleep paralysis. This was a haunting. I don't care what anyone says.

I experienced so much sleep paralysis when I was younger.. most nights I was afraid of going to sleep because I knew it would happen again. But after experiencing it so much I learned to “feel the signals” when it was about to begin and I could wake myself up by really concentrating on wiggling my foot and I would snap out of it .. I also learned to never start my sleeping position laying on my back.

I suffer from this. I used to think I was seeing things and wondered if I was going crazy. One day, I watched a program that talked about this. I was glad to find out I wasn't going crazy and that it was a real thing

I'm 60yrs old and this started happening to me since I was 14yrs young and has continued throughout the years, it still scares me, I've learned to mentally force myself awake which requires some great effort, it's good to know that I'm not the only one going through this phenomenon.
